So assuming i'm buying my laptop today- I want the best in performance and have opted for the 7970m amd card- what is the difference in the two processors... and is the 3820 qm worth the 225 dollars extra over the 3610 for gaming?

    thanks :D

No, the 3610QM will be plenty for gaming. You could spend that $225 elsewhere on either a display upgrade or SSD.

difference in cpu processing power is about 20% between those two, but thats only in cpu intensive tasks. as for gaming, u wont notice any difference at all :)

for that 225 you can add another 5 bucks and you will get yourself a 256gb crucial m4 at tiger direct, much more interesting buy

I play a lot of emulators so I want a fast CPU, but even the 3720QM is a bit harder to swallow this time since the difference between it and the 3610QM isn't as big as between the 2720/2760QM and 2630/2670QM.

For the 3720 it depends who you go through. Most of them charge ~$160 for the upgrade from the 3610 and it might be a little harder to swallow but Mythlogic charges $46. The base price is higher with them, however. The upgrade to the 3820 is another $180 with a minimal gain in performance. That's where I think it's not worth to upgrade, for me at least.
