I was swapping out my wifi card and noticed (what looked like) a 3rd antenna hidden on the right side. The head was covered with an orange piece of paper. Can I remove this and connect it to a 6300-n wireless card? Is there any benefit to doing so?

Yes that is the third antenna made for wireless cards that use all three.

You sure can! The benefit is potentially better signal strength, among other "techie" boons, such as MIMO, 300Mbps speeds, potentially better signal strength, etc.

    Benefit in doing so:
-You can use 5ghz network instead of only 2.4ghz
-Less people use 5ghz network, so there will be less network traffic. Most people are on 2.4, so that spectrum can be overused and cause connection problems if, for example, you live in a crowded apartment building where everywhere is using a 2.4ghz router.
-You can acheive 450mbps speeds with 5ghz instead of 300mbps with 2.4ghz.
