I just popped two 2 GB dimms into my NP9261. Windows boots fine, everything works perfectly... but everything I've checked only recognizes 2.8 GB. I was under the impression that even 32-bit OSes can recognize ~3.5GB of RAM. Is there something I'm missing here?
I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit, if that helps.

It could be a vista thing or it could just be the way your system is seeing it. There have been mixed results with it even in XP. But when you game or run apps there is a chance they will see it and use it. I know from reading a few months ago people were getting better performance just from bumping to 4GB.

I believe only Windows Vista Ultimate x64 is capable of recognizing 4GB of RAM.

love this comment!
..regarding 32bit Vista not seeing 3.5GB RAM - it depends on your system configuration as any additional parts of your notebook (e.g. tuner, second video card) lower amount of RAM that 32bit OS can address.
..but if that happends with one GFX and no additional components, then you might want to contact tech support -

It's about an Alienware but does talk about some of the limitations of a 32-bit OS.
