I just popped two 2 GB dimms into my NP9261. Windows boots fine, everything works perfectly... but everything I've checked only recognizes 2.8 GB. I was under the impression that even 32-bit OSes can recognize ~3.5GB of RAM. Is there something I'm missing here?

I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit, if that helps.

It could be a vista thing or it could just be the way your system is seeing it. There have been mixed results with it even in XP. But when you game or run apps there is a chance they will see it and use it. I know from reading a few months ago people were getting better performance just from bumping to 4GB.

Hmm. I know I read somewhere that someone's copy of Vista was able to address 3.5 GB of RAM. I guess I just got the short end of the stick.

YOu can get the Vista 64bit from microsoft. I got my copy for the fraction of 10 dollars. I got charge only mail out. I don't no if they send all of them out. My copy is the Enterprise or business copy. I obtained the CD KEy from the University. Just try it out they might send it to you. Good Luck.

It was hard enough to bite the bullet and install Vista at all, what with all the annoying sound issues and such. There's no way I'm going to tack on horrid driver support as well by switching to 64-bit. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

    :D love this comment! :D

..regarding 32bit Vista not seeing 3.5GB RAM - it depends on your system configuration as any additional parts of your notebook (e.g. tuner, second video card) lower amount of RAM that 32bit OS can address.
..but if that happends with one GFX and no additional components, then you might want to contact tech support ;)
