its specs that leaked peg the performance to not be more than 15-20% over the 8800M GTX.... if even that much.

If you want the 9800M GTX, with possible in real terms a 10% improvement on the 8800m GTX, you should wait on it.

If you want a laptop with a powerful graphics card that will last you 3 years, get the 8800m GTX.

Just remember, after the 9800m GTX comes out, we'll be talking about the completely new set Nvidia will be bringing out.

    Buy when you need.

Edit: Keep in mind the process normally goes like INNOVATION and then IMPROVEMENT, and then INNOVATION and so on. I normally like to buy INNOVATION, but that's just me. You got to ask yourself what kind of consumer you are.

    8800M GTX+(15/100)*8800MGTX=9800M GTX ;)

9900, aka GT280, is 4 times faster than 9800. I don't think we will see it within a year the earliest.

9800M GTX is not going to be more than 20%... if that much.

I am confident that it would not be more than even 10% in real game tests compared to the 8800M GTX... which its based from.

Until they work the kinks out of and release high capacity solidstate fans we won't be seeing anything uber-powerful for notebooks (280) because of the heat and power usage issue. (solidstate fan= more cooling and silent + less power use, allowing gpu to use more subsequent power and create more heat)
    Just a speculation.

Yea,along with the increased performance, they said that the Gt280 will be the most powerhungry cards around.
    I don't think you'll see a GT280 in a laptop,maybe a crippled beyond repair version.
Cutting down the power requirement to 1 5th ...well,that's a job for Superman :D

No. I KNOW that the 9800M GTX will eventually fit into the m860tu. Impossible is nothing when money is involved.

Same goes for the next gen card, it will be watered down yes, but it will be done. :D

I think the 7950 was released during the time that many new games etc. were in the works. I don't know of any games that plan on having higher graphics than crysis that are in production for the near future. So I firmly believe that 8800's will hold their ground for a long time as far as usage goes.

GTX being 4 times powerful with 4 times the power usage.... Yea, thats why i think the 9800 is a good time to wait. I figured the 9800 would come out soon after the 8800s, but i feel the 9800 will be a good buy since it will probably remain a supreme card for a VERY long time (longer than most others) since the transitions from the 9x00 to the GTX280 will probably take a bit longer than other transitions. WHICH also means the 9800 will be worked on extensively during this time optimizing the crap outta it until we see GTXs... no?

I figured that the best way to ESTIMATE is compare the currently available cards.

    http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=559&card2=474
Comparing the DESKTOP 8800GTX and 9800GTX

    and

    http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=474&card2=569
To compare the DESKTOP 8800GTX with the MOBILE 8800M GTX.
This would give us an estimate in average differences. :)

    Just my opinion though.

    EDIT:
    Forgot to add this:
    http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=567&card2=559
Comparing DESKTOP GTX280 vs 9800 GTX
BTW. That seems to be a very nice website for card info and comparisons.

i don't understand how NOTHING has been seen about the 9800 in the D901c. If anything the 901 should have been the FIRST to get it. Its got the space and cooling capacity... moreso than the 570.... no offense to 570 owners :D

Oh the 5793 has cooling capacity - and noise to prove it :D
Honestly though, I think 5793 owners are paying more attention to the 9800 since we don't have that cool SLI thing - which is already powerful even without the 9800.

But yea, that kinda troubles me cuz i need my laptop for early september. SO i dunno how i'm gonna be able to send it out unless they get this running in august....

    Ignorant... :p
You know, this particular VW was my dad`s first car in the 90s , featured a 1.6 l engine,45HP,2 carburators,2 trunks(both front and back ) 15 inch alloy wheels and a wood with coll encrustings stick shifter.
    That car is a tank.

As the D901C, it has plenty of room for future improvements.

I had one of these for a while during college:

tho' mine was sand-coloured, and not quite as uniformly coloured, either. :D It had a 4-speed stick-shift and 1500cc motor, and, last but not least, it came with the custom ventilated floorpan! :D

Even so, it was probably still at least 40% Faster than my stinky little vaio!

Most people won't consider that weight an issue until a few months of carrying around the laptop. I know I didn't when I got the 17", but then I knew if I got a 15" laptop, I'd get some graphics card that would have been outdated in a few months as well.

Now there is no excuse not to get a 15" for power :D (other than the wait)

That 9262 is going make you feel some pain when you see people walking around with their 13" integrated lappies typing away happily in class man.

I'm not sure where I read it but someone posted that the 9800 would not be faster than dual 8800 in SLI on a laptop.

    Is this correct?
