I just read some information about FireWire on the internet. It says that FireWire ports can supply up to 45W of power? Is this true? It seems an awful lot, considering that the powersupply for M570TU is only 120W...

If it's indeed true, are there any harddrives that use eSATA for data transfer and FireWire for supplying power? That would be perfect for me... :D

    45W is possible. The voltage is 8 to 30 volts, 1.5 amps maximum, so 30 x 1.5 = 45W.

But the FireWire 400 port of the M570TU is a 4 pin one, so no power source pins like on the standard 6 pin plug.

But can't the 4-pin one also supply some power? Maybe not 45W but a bit less?

No, because the 4 pin conection only include the data bus wires. On the standard FireWire connection you have the same 4 data pins with 2 more pins for power source(6 pins in total).

Ah, I see. Well that's to bad. It would have made an excellent power source, but I guess 45W going through the motherboard might be a bit much for a notebook.
