thats alright, just that ur temps seem almost too good to be true!

let furmark run for 10 minutes at the following settings:

    full screen checked
    resolution 1920x1080
    anti-aliasing at 8xMSAA
    dynamic background checked
    dynamic camera unchecked
    burn-in checked
    Xtreme burn-in checked
    Post FX checked

then start the whole thing with the button "Burn-In Test"

what program are u using to overclock?

    thanks in advance!

    cheers

pretty awesome temps u got going there! what kinda thermal paste are u using? IC diamond? it lets u check all options as long as u leave "dynamic camera" unchecked!

    cheers

I'll re run tests in a few mins. With those options checked. Then I'll rerun all the benchmarks and add PCMark vantage, and 3Dmark 11.

Yeah, ICD7 :D prolly will run the test another time with Fn+1, then again with Fn+1 and my notebook cooler on hi. Just to compare

no, i'm not.. everything done so far is with it just sitting on my desk

AND. idk what's goin on, but the few times i've just tried to run furmark after adjusting the clocks, the gpu is running it's clocks really low.
    core: 73mhz
    mem: 324mhz
and i see now that its only running at .85v. wonder why, i'm plugged in

edit: fixed it. installed Atmosk's newest drivers. apparently this happens when your drivers fail and dont revert?

edit2: i give up for now lol.. i was doin the mem and the core/shader clocks separately, and i get the max for the memory clocks at 1760mhz before furmark freaks. for the core/shader i can't go past 625/1250mhz (?) before i get a system freeze and i have to do a hard restart. (it runs fine at 625/1250 though).

when i try to do 625/1250/1760 i freeze, and i have to hold down the power button.

other times furmark just crashes. it's random..? make i have a bad install of furmark? gpu temps got up to a max of 87c before something would freeze/crash, so i know temps are good.

aaah okay, that sounds more like it :) i can get my card up to 640 / 1280 / 1640 stable, but not more without gettin a freeze. its not a bad install of furmark, but u finally got both the clocks and the settings straight. try lowering ur memory clocks, that should do the trick! now i understand why ur clocks were stable and ur temps low even at those high OC settings, since u only ran the furmark benchmark without burn-in modes. and adding to that the downclocking of the card to its high 2D state @73/324 Mhz it makes sense that ur temps wouldnt go past 80C :p

and yeah, the card has a total of three different clock states: low 2D/idle at like 50/100 Mhz, high 2D/active idle at around 75/325 Mhz and 3D mode at full clocks. in the first two states it automatically undervolts to .85V to save power and only goes up to 1V when in 3D mode, not matter if ure plugged in or not.

    cheers

hey guys, if anyone is interested in squeezing a bit more power out of his 485M, i found a BIOS tweaked to a core voltage of 1.03V instead of the standard 1.00 V in 3D mode :)

heres the download link: 485M 1.03V BIOS

    flash with NvFlash!

Enjoy! and keep us posted on ur OC results! :)

some 485 users give us a pretty-good overclock score
485 is the top1 GPU in notebook world
    but 470 is 288 cuda-cores , not 336 ! so 470 must be overclocked ,
because 470's performance is lower , even can't play some new games !

    please use 3d-11 / 3d-vantage / win7 scores to show the ability of 485
though w860cu can't equip 485 , I hope gtx570m can be tested some day , hope 570 will passed on my old machine .

not bad! :) being able to do a 3DMark run doesnt mean its stable tho. could easily happen that ur system crashes or freezes up during gaming sessions. thats why i test stability with furmark, since it gives u the maximum stress / worst case scenario ;)

I wish we had a similar thread for the 2920XM. There is an eery lack of reviews/results on overclocking the 2920XM. Anyone knows why is that?

    yah....anyone have 2920xm??
with turbo boost 2.0 the 2920xm can run 4core8thread all 100% load @3.2ghz(stock setting)
but after 0.5~1hour full load the heat and power draw force it down clock to stock 2.5ghz

this is the 2920xm @4.5ghz in special chassis(not laptop)

using it already, only works on forcing the powersaving state on the cpu (even on full stress), but doesnt work for overclocking, unfortunately!

and was talking about the 485M @beast ;)

well of course, naturally, since the 2920xm has an open multiplier and the 8170 has the XMP enabled BIOS (also supports RAM OC btw), but i was talking about (possible) alternative ways to overclock! like upping the QPI link for example or ocing the FSB ^^

doing a big LAN session with a buddy this weekend! so ill probably get around to trying it out next week (if uni allows me ^^)

    cheers

if youre using it on your machine you cant as you need unlocked multipliers or a pll register to use it.
if you mean it doesnt support the 2920xm yet, then we will just have to wait for drwebb to add sandybridge to his list.
you can pm unclewebb if throttlestop will be able to support sb in the future..

    edit:
he says it does support 2920xm

it would be nice if the OP could collate all posted o/c info in the first thread; including a short list of systems specs, driver info, and max stable o/c.
since only a few have posted results it shouldnt be too hard.

i flashed to 1.03v bios and core 730mhz is my max
when @740 and higher 3dmark will pop out flickering stars/snow and things goes wrong :(

Hey, thanks for checking man, I appreciated that response. I use afterburner on my desktop, and have it set up so both my 580's stay under 70*c

I wonder if you can also under-volt these puppies. I know this is the OC thread, but some might like to know if they can under-volt for cooler idle temps before going all out on their overclocks in games.

score at stock clocks is around 15100 points

lol, u definitely have more time on ur hands than i do :D but its nice to see what the 485m is capable of :)

btw, in ur Futuremark link it states that ure using Forceware version 270.61? is that correct or just a typo? cuz afaik the newest version would still be 270.51? (regularly checking on laptopvideo2go.com)

edit: nvm, just found the thread here :p

    cheers

yup.. thats the perk of being away at college lol

    270.61..

this new firmware is getting higher scores than 370.51, but it's not stable at as high of clocks as like 270.51 was.. kinda weird, but i guess it's an improvement :)
