thats true its going to be very good
but you should be cleaning every month even if you dont think it be dusty
but you always get some kind of a film of dust
-
hey guys i recently repasted with ic diamond and did the foil tape mod now i can overclock to 726 core and around 1750 memory with zero artifacting, and with the machine in my sig i score 4055 in 3d mark 11, how does that compare to what you guys are getting overclocked?
-
That's a pretty good score! I think 36xx was my highest. I really need to update the OP lol. I returned the machine not long after I got it so this kinda dropped off my radar.
Did you try the over volting mod? -
yes this is with an overvolt, and using the foil tape mod, running at 69C max fans 74 with max fans off while running bf3 for an hour at least, before with it stock voltage and and oced to 660 core i was around 85, or so with max fans. 30c idle max fans and 35c max fans off. i think the drivers have improved significantly, on notebook check it says the 670m outscores the 485m haha.
-
Have you considered flashing it to a 580 or 675..? Can't imagine there's a real benefit other then to say you've done it lol
-
the 580m is gf114 which is different than gf104 which is used in the 485m. not sure thats a good idea.... unless someone else has done it. in which case please notify me!
-
Oh, duh. Hmm.. Why did I think that it would work? Must be losing my mind.. Anyways, carry on.
-
im adding some of these 30mmx10mm blower fans into my machine in addition to the existing blowers. im going to use a 3d printer to make some exaust ducts to direct the airflow over some additional heatsinks that i have added and out of the back of the case. this should bring the temps down even more and then i can overclock it higher hopefully. and when i upgrade to a 680m or whatever comes out next from nvidia it will be even better, with such great cooling. also i ordered some thick copper tape to do seal the exaust leaks with so that should help too.
-
Where are you adding fans?
-
i will be adding the fans in the spot where the ram goes, i have mine mounted on the other side right now so im not even using the slots. in addition there is a spot for another card or something to the left of the cpu, which is not being used. i might stick one in there too. as for power, im just gonna clip on to one of the usb jacks and it will provide 5v, and add a small switch that pokes through the removable panel on the bottom.
also i could remove the dvd drive and make that into cooling some how, perhaps if i get the hdd caddy i will do that. -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
580m uses a full core from desktop 560ti where 485m uses a partly locked core from desktop gtx 460.
Flashing to 580m results in a brick, due to different hardware.
However 580m can be flashed to 675m but keep in mind that 675m aren't lucky in OC as 580m does.
Much like it happened in the past with 280/285m, althought same as 260/9800m gtx they OCed badly. -
Just for reference the gtx 460 used a locked core 336 cores, and the 485m actually uses the whole gf104 core all 384 cores. Now if you follow me that means a 670m/570m is really a downclocked gtx 460, but more power efficient.

Also add my score of 4055 in 3d mark 11 to the op. My clocks are in my sig -
i just ordered a mushkin chronos ssd too, so that might boost my scores a bit too haha, and it will be a better windows experience i guess.
-
yes pls add my scores as well i put them upp on page 14
-
uuuh nice! 485M OC revival! ordered the foil tape and now gonna OC the CRAP outta my 485M before swapping it out with a 7970M
-
just got my ssd in the mail, literally 12 hours after i ordered it. i love amazon prime it was only 4 bucks extra to recieve it the same day! time to install windows. still have to wait for the caddy to put my 500gb hdd in but for now this will do. besides im still having this stupid clr 800045 error. this will surely fix that.
-
Wasn't a ton to add, but I update the scores and corrected the programs to their newer versions
-
i can give you all the info in a better format. right now im installing everything again but then i will run 3d mark again to see how it goes, and i can give you the link for the score this time.
also i have the highest score for a 485m/ 2630qm.
-
woot! with 304.79 i got 4060 3d marks, at 723 core, 1730 mem, and with 301.42 i only got 3930 3d marks. i guess the drivers are the reason i can get over 4000.
here just add this
" aduy(723/1770/1446)
3Dmark 11: 4060 (304.79)
3Dmark 11: 3930 (301.42)
3Dmark 11: 3977 (304.48)
--using 1.03V Bios--"
also i noticed now it says my 485m is a schenker in nvidia inspector haha thats funny, i must have flashed someones vbios that had bought it through them.
anyways im having fun with this so im gonna do a test with 304.48 while im at it. -
awesome scores buddy
great to see what our good ol`485M is capable of
btw, i wouldnt recommend using the 304.48 drivers, they prevent the 485M from properly downvolting to 0.85V, thus it heats up a lot and the fans keep spinning up even when theres no load on the gpu...
cheers -
well im going to be doing more cooling mods too this bad boy too, ive got some extra mini blower fans and im getting an hdd caddy in the mail. ill draw the power for the fans from it, so i keep my warranty, and it will have the controls sticking out of the side of it for easy access. its gonna be awesome! and when i upgrade to the 680m or 780m i can keep the cooling system, as the 485m and 680m use the same heatsink. and yes 304.48 sucks.
-
getting a P32604 vantage
running no oc on the cpu
and physx on as well forgot to turn it off
ran the bench three times and all was about the same -
hey guys have a look at this score just did it NVIDIA GeForce GTX 485M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-990X Processor,CLEVO CO. X7200 score: P34402 3DMarks
0ver 29k in gpu
now i will do a run with physx off -
Did you do it with overvolting? -
do another run with physx off and also include 3dmark11 if u have the time
itching to try that aluminum foil method and see if i can finally get my 485M stable with core at over 700... so far it doesnt look like i got a golden card. heck it wouldnt even qualify as copper or tin! -
and a mild4ghz oc on the cpu as well
and the 304.48 driver
and im having some small probs keeping my CPU oc stable with out a CPU oc
the card's wont go above 28.5k on gpu points even with the same settings on the cards as sons as i bump the cpu the gpu's just fly
question you using the 1.03v bios? you should be able to run all day on 700 with that bios im running a 24/7 oc at 650/1700 becouse i dont need
higher clocks in BF3 to run high preset with adaptive vcynk and triple buffering never drop below 60fps and never hit higher 58-68c -
yeah ive tried the 1.03v vbios on different occasions before and it always turned out to be even less stable with OCed clocks than the regular vbios at 1.00v
not sure if that would improve any with the new 30x.xx drivers tho...
btw, with "stable" i mean 20 min furmark at maxxed out settings without artifacts, BSODS, drivers crashes or any other issues -
Strange most People i know they Can easy hit 700 on stock
I Can run bf3 no prob with those clocks and stock bios
Have a look at my post on 13 or 14 that Will give you
A ide hove my baby does at stock bios -
BAM! gotcha aduy!
mwahaha
clocks: 705/1500 core/mem, drivers: 304.79
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 485M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2860QM Processor,CLEVO P150HMx score: P4063 3DMarks
3DMark11: 4063
cheers
edit:
aaand another one http://3dmark.com/3dm11/3855783
clocks: 705/1740 on 304.79
score: 4097 -
I still have the fastest score for a 2630qm.

tru that! altho the cpu apparently doesnt make that big of a difference in 3dmark11
Sent from my GT-I9001 using Tapatalk 2 -
yes, graphics score is higher by 26, your cpu score is higher by 1314.

@jaybee
is you card unstable becouse of the heat or is it just unstable generaly when oc
ran furmark 20 min maxxed out hit 72c at 3/4 in to the run
did a run with fan's on full didn't hit higher 71c it whent from 69c-71c and back down again and this didn't happen untill maybe the last 2 min
sorry for not running the 11 or physx off CPU oc just whent tollaly unstable som im going to try some other setting on the cpu to get it running smoth at 4ghz -
wow those temps are amazing. im reaching 81-82C after 20 min furmark (all maxxed out, max resolution, max AA, max AF, extreme burn in mode) on fn+1 full fans. clock: 620/1640
so questions to you: which heat paste? any cooling mods?
atm im trying to figure out at what clocks i can call my card "benching-stable". as seen above, i can use much higher clocks when "just" benching 3dmark11 as opposed to stress testing with furmark.
cheers -
yeah with max fans i get about 69-70, and without i get around 75ish, overclocked to 723/1730 and overvolted.
-
huh,and here i thought that my temps were actually low in comparison!

oh yeah i remember having seen ur post back in the day ^^ good job btw, very interesting photo story so to say
but does it really make that big of a difference to lap the heatsinks? i mean the differences in height and scratches are miniscule at best and are evened out by the TIM anyways, isnt it?
if i choose to do this i could actually just use my dremel with a respective grain attachment -
it gave me a drop of 3 to 6c
and a nice mirror chine -
yeah i figured that@better not use a dremel after reading some manuals online ^^ looks like im gonna get myself a few sheets of sandpaper soon
Sent from my GT-I9001 using Tapatalk 2 -
ok so i got rid of furmark once and for all and now using kombustor for gpu stability testing. found new stable clocks at 665/1690 core/mem and getting around 3.9k in 3dmark11. very happy with that
and a great way to send my trusty 485m into retirement
Sent from my GT-I9001 using Tapatalk 2 -
nice! i just got these nifty little heatsinks meant for vga ram and stuck 8 of em on my gpu and 8 on my cpu, and if i run kombustor on stock clocks it runs at 74c, but if i have the back open and i use one of my blowers i run at 64c, so now after i get my copper tape, which should come pretty soon, i will seal everything and then repaste, and then possibly lap my heatsink and then somehow manufacture air ducts to carry air from the blowers across the gpu heatsinks and out of the case. also i replaced the crappy plastic grills with metal fan grills for uber airflow! and i got a coolermaster u3.

lol that is so wicked!@metal fan grills
my aluminum tape just arrived in the mail todayalso covered both my cpu and gpu heatsinks with copper vRAM heatsinks and still got enough left to cover the 7970M heatsink (arriving this week
)
thinking about lapping the heatsinks as well, but ill first check and see how the 7970M holds up in kombustor
btw: did u completely cover up the cpu heatsink fins with aluminum tape? isnt one supposed to use just enough to cover the gaps instead of the whole thing? and whats ur personal experience on this mod?
cheers -
no my cpu fins are aluminum for some reason :O. also i have some copper tape coming in the mail, and i will tell you difference between that and the aluminum. and yes tell me how the lapping goes, i might do that on mine, just so i can cover all of the cooling bases haha. by the time im done it will be running at 30c while gaming hahaha.
and yeah i just took the grills off of my notepal u3 and cut them to size, then put a grinder bit in my drill press and cutout the holes. then just used some hot glue and its good to go. and as far as ducts for the air, im thinking of either making it out of aluminum tape, or some sort of easy to work with plastic, just hope it doesnt melt, the gpu ram heatsink gets hotter than i expected. -
impressive stuff, just put on the aluminum foil on the gpu and cpu heatsinks and i got a 5C reduction in temps after 20 min. of kombustor
totally worth it!
-
hey so how does one go about putting the clocks into the vbios permanantly?
-
i dont bother with the vBIOS, i just make a clocks shortcut with Nvidia Inspector and manually add that into the registry so it loads up whenever i boot my laptop
also included a powersaving and a OC .bat shortcut in my programs so i can switch on the fly whenever theres a need
aside from that u can just dump the vBIOS with gpu-z, modify it with NiBitor and use nvflash to flash it to ur card
cheers -
ok man here it is, i wasnt able to make proper ducts so im just using it without for now, which seems to be working pretty well, id say at least a 2-3 degree drop in bf3 with fn+1 and my notepal u3, so it stays at 58-57 haha, which is great for a room temp of 26-27c, also at one point i saw it idle at 28c, which is super cold.
-
dude, that machine must make some serious noise under load! lol
so sick!
how exactly did u fix those lil fans in place? and arent they annoyingly loud when spinning up? or are they hooked up to the large fans´ voltage regulators, thus spinning slowly as long as the components are cool?
in any way, good job! +rep
485m overclocking results?
