    Hi there,

I have an NP9262 with 4GB RAM, and Vista64bit, but for some season it does not pickup all the memory available!

attached snapshots from my BIOS screen and the task manager + system properties.

And as you can see from the BIOS screen, there is 4095MB available for OS!

I'm sure, at some point when I first get it, it was alright, but something must have happened! (maybe due to those daily windows updates ;p)

Swap/paging is disabled from day one, and I don't intend to use it with 4GB on board.

I've searched a lot, but all talk about 32bit not the 64bit,,,

Could any of you help me please?

Strange. On my computer task-manager says 4093.

There is an option to modify the 'Maximum Memory' in MSConfig....have a look there, and set it to 4096. (Run > MSConfig)

Thanks a million guys, especially Andy!

Ok here is something you won’t find anywhere in the Web….

The reason I got less memory because at some point I modified the msconfig to boot using all the 4 processes.

What you said Andy triggered me, so I reset it to boot using only one CPU and guess what, my memory now is 4093MB !!

Could it be a bug in Vista64 or Using multi CPU boot option?

Just make note, whenever someone complains about missing memory on a 64bit vista, just inform them to checkout the boot options and to set it to 1 processor incase it was modified.

    Best regards,

I don't think it is a bug. I have the option to use all cores during boot-up, and I see the full memory addressed in Vista 64.

Well, you can compare the reboot times you got before with what you get now, and if there's not a massive difference, let Vista use a single core during boot-up.

I use all the cores during boot-up and I see the full memory too.

Well, I don't know what went wrong in my case, but whatever it is, certainly I don't notice any difference when booting with 4 cpus. I mean how much will it reduce, from 10 sec to 9.75!

Anyways, I'm just glad it came back :)

That's strange, I wanted to experiment with my settings after reading this thread but my memory decreased and the advanced boot option maximum memory only goes up to 3072, not 4096 like it should.

Uncheck that option, restart --> see if you get the full 4GB addressed, and then check the memory option in msconfig, and type in 4096 - restart.

Yeah just tried it. If I uncheck that option, I do get the full 4GB addressed. If I check it again and type in 4096, then it seems to work but as soon as I restart I see that the memory addressed is actually something like 3600. So I unchecked the option again, restarted, and now I'm back at full 4GBs. My processor option is still checked though.

Does having the max memory option checked matter if you're already getting all 4GBs addressed?

EDIT: Oh and the weirdest thing happened - my "Hibernate" option is now back in the shutdown menu after mysteriously disappearing for whatever reason a couple of months ago.

You don't need to edit that option, if you're getting all the 4GB addressed.

I think that option is mainly used to limit the memory addressed for users with low priveleges, so they can't run intensive software of their own, that they may carry around on flash drives, etc. (Like my college computers :p)

And you can enable/disable hibernation by using the command "powercfg /hibernate on" (or off) in CMD.
