I have a Tritton AX Pro headset and have it set up to my computer using the S/PDIF out jack. The problem is that my decoder box for the headset shows that it is using Dolby Pro Logic instead of Dolby Digital. I want to send a 5.1 Dolby Digital signal out of the jack, but the options only allow 2 channels, at varying sample rates. I was wondering if there is any way to have the computer output 5.1 that I am missing, or if I will have to buy an external soundcard, I have heard a lot of people suggest the ASUS Xonar U3 on this site?

On a side note I can also plug in my headset using the three cables for surround sound, the problem is that the mic jack is also one of the jacks that I have to use for the surround sound, is there any way to change that?

Any help is much appreciated as I am at a loss for what to do next and want to get the most out of my headset

I remember coming across a thread that mentioned using a HDMI converter to do the 5.1 trick. It wasn't for Sager tho.

And sadly the S/PDIF out on the P150EM only does stereo when running with games, not sure about movies.

However, 5.1/7.1 mode works perfectly under analog out mode.

good solution here is to have a sound card with DD/DTS encoding capabilities, like ASUS Xonar U3 with DDL, which's very good for me for that purpose. i don't think that NP9150's on-board sound card can do it.

yo man i have the same headset, and its not going to work unfortunately, your going to have to use the 3.5mm jacks. what i did for the microphone was take apart a usb headset(the one that came with rosetta stone). The usb jack it self has a stereo output and a mono input for the micro phone. unsolder all the wires to the usb headset, then cut off the 3.5mm jack for the mic, its the pink one, strip the and tin the wires and solder the wires from the mic of your ax pro to the spot for the mic on the usb jack dongle thing, then just reassemble the usb casing and you have a great solution. if you want you could even add a 3.5mm jack to it and have an extra output from your computer. it works great for me, but you may or may not be able to solder or may just not want to modify your equipment. 2012-09-04_10-49-26_21.jpg

if you have a receiver with HDMI connectivity, you can get from your video card a 5.1 PCM uncompressed sound.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't really want to risk taking things apart, purely due to my limited experience with soldering. :(

OK, I will probably buy one. It is really disappointing, that on a laptop this expensive the sound card is so bad.

I went with the Tritton pc510 Hda instead and use analog out, it's pretty good.

Well i suggest getting this, its basically what i described doing but you just plug the mic cable in. Also 5.1 over optical has a lot of noise, compared to straight analogue from 3.5mm jacks
