Anyone else had this?
Machine has worked perfectly since I got it (less than a year ago.) Had to move, so I tossed it in the backpack, placed it on a shelf (so movers woudlnt' go near it), and picked it up now two weeks later. Cool down there, but dry etc.
The touchpad works but is very jumpy.. will flow right for a half second, then the pointer will jumperraticly somewhere else. ITs essentially entirely unusable suddenly.
USB mouse works fine of course.
MS push down something that screwed up the touchpad? OR perhaps known bug? *pray*
OR gone bad?

the touchpad has at least one cable/connector that can cause issues if it gets loose.
try to re-seat the cable/connector to see if the problem goes away. -
try to reinstall the drivers for it and see it that helps

Any pics where you could circle where I'm looking?
Do I need to remove anything (ie: hard drive say) to get at it?
Right near the middle front there was a tiny little pcb, that looked like it was on top of another; on the left side of the lower one there was a tiny little connector that did seem a tiny bit loose; I jiggled at it with a television scrwdriver to make sure it was tight. *Shrug*
The touchpad is working right now, but it worked randomly on and off so will need a few days.
(Gads, took me awhile to find a moment didn't it?

I'll have to locate and reinstall the driver .. its futzy again today; what is interesting is the machine has not moved .. left it on the desk; worked okay last night, is futzy this morning after a hibernate. MAybe I'll do a full reboot and see .. perhaps its somehow related to hibernate (though it didn't occurt before a month ago..)

You might just want to consider replacing the touchpad assembly (or having it replaced if you're still under warranty). I get wonky behaviour out of the touchpad on my 5y.o. vaio occasionally - freeze-up, random motion, ghost tapping actions, and the like - but it seems primarily related to two things: how hot the hdd is, and for how long (hdd is right next to the touchpad assembly), and whether I've been resting my left palm on the left palm-rest area, and how heavily. Usually, a couple of light taps to the part of the left palm-rest that's immediately adjacent to the touchpad will free up the behaviour. I noticed the last time I opened the thing up that one of the screws that fastens the assembly to the underside of the top casing cover is missing, but left it alone as I didn't have a spare, and right now, I can't be bothered to fix the thing (FWIW, _Sony seems pretty cavalier about how many of the screws shown in the detailed diagrams actually get installed).

I'm having a similar problem. Tell me, does your touchpad work fine when the AC is disconnected?
-
Qoose -- a very interesting question; that is entirely possible, though I had not made the correlation. The last couple times it worked fine I was screwing around without A/C though.. could be coincidence or not. I'll do some tests.
(Do you have to reboot, or can you just plug AC in and out and see the effect?)
I'm using the style-notes BIOS on my sager (for the 8800GTX support, seeing as Sager didn't include the CD with the BIOS when they sent my card out) .. BIOS 0.08 IIRC.

I'll post back later. -
Every now and then, mine doesn't respond after the pc goes to screen-saver while on battery. Have you had that too?

You have nailed it; I can plug or unplug the AC and when plugged in, the problem appears.
For me, this started around 3-4 weeks ago, not before.
I am wondering is MS pushed down something that caused it?
Which BIOS are you using?
I'll start another thread for this specific problem to see if it catches any more eyes, but I'll read here as well in case you reply.
