It looks like you may be able to do just that. I've had similar thoughts with my vaio 'cause I use the optical drive about 5 times a year or so, but I was never able to find any useful info.

However, after I read your post, I did another google search and, lo and behold, I came across a company named Newmodeus that offers an Optical Bay Drive Caddy that they claim can be used to install a second hard drive in the space occupied by the optical drive. They sell both a "universal" caddy as well as caddies designed for specific brands (only the big names, of course).

That´s impossible for ALL Clevo MV NBs. I checked the T(U) series and they have now SATA ODD, not the old normal PATA ODD.....

No, but the "universal" might fit - that's not limited to a specific brand, from what I read.

But the old 570U's had optical drive cages you could get. Then they were discontinued, I'm thinking right about the time we went to SATA hard drives. Maybe now they will be brought back now that the optical bay is SATA.

At least that's what I was hoping in another thread.

When SATA ODD is common in most NBs i´m sure there will be a suitable DIY Smartbay, but now still too early.....

I question whether that means for the drive itself though. That you could use IDE or SATA drives in the caddy. I think the caddy itself is IDE. The SATA opticals are too new IMHO for them to say, " If your laptop uses a standard CD/DVD drive, you can easily add a second hard drive to your laptop..."

That would be my guess. If they showed a pic of the back of the thing I could tell right away.

Not really. They are saying it works with SATA hard drives (they also have PATA / IDE drive options). The interface itself, when they say, "Fits standard drive bays", I would guess means what was standard up until a week ago which is not the SATA interface you have in the 570-TU and 860's. ;)

An email to them will clear it up. If they are doing this, eventually they will be doing SATA though.
