I found some pics over at NBF.com, including a few of the lid defect I noted in the "Serious question..." thread. His lid is definitely bad. You can see exactly what he means about the "split" in his 5720's lid. Here's the link:

    Now...

    Prepare yourself...

Look below for pics of this incredible machine!!

A side question: How sturdy do you think is that LCD panel along the front edge? I wonder if the lights will go bad over time.

Hey Jack, don't know if you have read the entire thread, but his 5720 is the only one so far to have this defect. I have a friend who has the 9880 with the lcd panel along the front (facing front, not up like the 5720) like this: http://img298.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc000133zi.jpg
and his is still working fine and he is rough on his laptop.

Yeah, I saw that his is the only defective unit. It doesn't matter how good any company's quality control is, eventually a few duds will get through. I'm sure he won't have any trouble getting a replacement.

Good to know that LCD panel can take some abuse and still work properly!

I've got the exact same front panel on my 5320. It is very sturdy, no flex when you push it at all. I think it will scratch fairly easy though (I'm not going to find out :p), so you should be careful putting it in and out of your bag.

Yes - thanks for linking the pics of the 5720 with the LCD problem. That's definitely a problem with his laptop - you won't have that.

To 5720 owners - what is your lid made of (exterior) - just wondering - because I have the 15.4" version and my lid is aluminum, wondering if yours was the same.

I think I remeber reading somewhere over at NBF that the 5720 lid is also aluminum, which makes it a b!tch for me later on when I do to do the vinyl dye job I have planned for it. Although I may just leave the lid black and add some other black accents. I am actually looking at doing something like this in the first post http://forums.pimprig.com/showthread.php?p=439811#post439811, but I was gonna use the Tuner Red, light silver misting and then more tuner red. I thing it will en up looking nice, especially with some black accents.
