I've been looking at laptops for a while and have considered many different laptops to buy. Currently I'm contemplating a Sager 5750 but have a few questions. Just how good is the ATi RADEON X1600 w/Up to 512MB HyperMemory video card? And how good is the 17" WXGA+ (1440x900) Matte LCD Display? The 5760 with the same exact specs on powernotebooks.com is rougly $850 more, it has 17" WUXGA "Super Clear Glossy" TFT Active Matrix screen and for video card nVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX w/512MB GDDR3 memory. Also at first I was considering a Compal HEL80 but since this will be a desktop replacement I decided to find something that is 17". I heard a lot of good things about the Compal HEL80's cooling system and its Matte screen so I wondered how the Sager 5750 compares.

The NP5750 has been recently updated with the Glare Type Glossy WXGA screen. :) Do you anticipate allot of gaming on the laptop? What will be your primary use for the machine?

If you were looking at the HEL80 you should also look at the Asus Z96J, we posted some pics of it here next to the compal. It also has a better cooling system than the HEL80 and also has the glare type display.

The 5760 has a much more video power than all of them (3D Mark 05 in the 5760 is over double the score of the Z96J with the 256/512mb X1600 HM) (5750 has 128/512mb X1600 HM)

I'll probably game quite a bit on it, games up to Far Cry, Doom 3 and HL2 quality. Obviously playing them no problem on max settings would be nice but medium quality would do just fine. It's going to be a desktop replacement so I won't be taking it places too much. I do go on vacations and such occasionally so that's why I'm replacing my desktop with a laptop, because when I've gone away before I wished I had one at the time. The 5760 looks nice but it's too much of a price jump for me and I am not too concerned on running any of the really graphically demanding games apart from what I previously mentioned anytime in the near future.

P.S. I plan to get 2 gigs of Ram so should that be fine with the x1600 video card in the 5750 since only 128mb is dedicated.

I understand about the price jump to the 5760. The 5750 has a very attractive price tag. :)

While the 5750 can definitely play games, its main purpose is to give those who want the power of the 5760 but don't really need gaming power.
