    Hi there!

I'm looking for a notebook stand and for now my choice has stopped on the APC notebook stand (with USB hub).

Any of you using it? If not, what are you using? I don't want to go with the targus or the Belkin as i'm affraid the metallic surface of the stand could scratch my notebook. I want something that will hold up my laptop almost vertically and not only raise it a couple inches.

I've done some research and saw somewhere a company that made those stand (like the belkin) with a velevety fabric finish, but can't find it anymore :( .

Any thoughts about the APC? Will it hold the 5760 solidly?

you should read Kilim's review on his 5760, he recommends the 2 best notebook stands.

    Kilim's 5760 Accessories Review

    - Vantec LapCool4
    - Cooler Master NotePAL W1

    hope that helps,

I spent a good whole month checking various online shops and reviews for laptop cooler.
Most of the reviews won't be perfect as they tested those laptop coolers with a laptop that may be different in configuration than the 5760.

IF You are planning to carry the Laptop Cooler with you, the Vantech LapCool4 is a good choice.
It comes with 3 USB 2.0 ports and you can even get a model with a 8-in-1-Card reader.
(HINT: DO NOT buy the version with a Card Reader as the Card Reader in your 5760 will suffice, save your money.)

IF you plan to keep the Laptop Cooler on your desk and not plan to move it at all, the CoolerMaster NotePal W1 would be my choice.
Not sure where to get 1 yet or if it is already available.
But it looks like the 3 fans it has should push air directly on both bottom fans of the 5760.

I am actually thinking of getting the NotePal W1 soemtime when I find it and it becomes available to just leave on my desk and just have my LapCool4 in my backpack and use for traveling.

Check the bonus section of my review for pictures and stuff of my accessories for the 5760 :D

I am currently using a Cooler Master NotePAL W1 bought it for about $40.

It isnt as bulky as u would think, but the portability is somewhat of an issue... to put into a bag/backpack. It's sleak and full black aluminum with 2 60mm fans and 2 USB ports (powered by USB).

I bought a 3M LX550 knock off in Korea for about $10.00 which I use with the 5760. I had to find the sweet spot for stability while in the stand because the notebook is way too big for the riser. But, I have found the spot and it works well.

Hmm, I was thinking the NotePAL W1 has 3 Fans on it.
Just liek what it says in this page here: http://www.coolermaster.com/index.p...AWBS&other_title=+R9-NBC-AWBK/AWBS+NotePal W1

According to it it is due to arrive on November.
Only difference is it has 3 fans instead of 2.

If you have teh 3 fan version, mind telling me where you got it? :)

Yeah I've found those options, but I don't want a portable solution. What I am looking for is something that will hold my notebook almost vertically so the screen is lifted up at the eyes height.

This for example (APC - looking for real life experiences):

Or this, though I don't like the metal finish in contact with the laptop and it fits only notebooks up to 16"...

And the Targus Ergo D pro:

I have a preference for #1m but any thoughts?

Dell sells that Kensington one (your second pic) for their e1705s. To my knowledge you don't have metal touching the laptop--it's all plastic or rubber. I only had the dock though, without the stand portion which I didn't like anyway.

I would think you would not want the keyboard hidden as the Function keys control some things you may want to change later on.
Would suck lifting the laptop from the base station just so you can turn on/off a certain function.

Also, the keyboard is used for heat dissapation as well. The shield-thing looks weird and unnecessary.

Well First thing this morning I got my new stand at work :D. I have to admit it's quite nice. I ordered the APC one, and think i'm gonna order a second one for home lol :D. It makes working with a laptop quite comfortable! The base is concave so only the 2 horizontal rubber "bars" hold the laptop in place (there's a lot of room for air...). And it's quite solid. The holder just falls inside the laptop "legs" so all of the laptop base touch the holder. The smal fan is completely clear. The larger one is minimally blocked I'd say 1/5 or 1/6, but that can be corrected by moving the notebok to the right, and it's still solid, though not in the middle..

So all that touch the laptop is rubber, even the little front blocker.

Any negative points? None that I can think of for now, except that though the screen is at the right height, it's a little far away from the eyes for a WUXGA screen.

    Great buy!

    Edit:
Oh yeah, all for ports are now in the back. Probably a design change for good anyway.

Sure! All I have now is my crappy phone cam, but I should get my other stand this morning and I'll set it up it tonight and take some pics. Come back by thursday and you'll have them :D.

Ok! You want teh pics, you'll have them lol.

    You'll have:
    1) What it looks like where i am installed at home;
    2) a close up. Since the desk is a little higher than normal I use the second lowest position
    3) the left side of the stand, to show how well the M57U fits
    4) The right side, with the stand at the highest position. Even there the notebook is rock solid :D.

Honestly, the thing is held a lot stronger than I thought for something this light. But it's a stand you will carry with you. Not too portable, but cheap enough so you can buy more than one. I bought one for work with the USB ports and one for home without the ports.

One thing I noticed when I had my 5720 and used it with that NotePal stand was that the notebook became very unstable if the lid were open more than 90 degrees. The 5720/60 has the majority of its mass/weight in the back. So, opening the lid made it too easy for the notebook to tip over backwards. I caught mine tipping twice before I gave up on the NotePal.

For a unique alternative to a stand, check out Dr. Bodelin's Laptop Bumpers. They were perfect for my 5720. Here's a good review:

    Jack,

I actually have a Cooler Master NotePAL W1 (widescreen 17" support), true that it really needs another 2" of depth to really support 17" Clevo notebooks, but I have modified it with simple rubber standoffs (bumbers) in the the back (where you said it was tip over). With the standoffs/bumbers in place, the notebook got very stable and is still cooled well.

However, I was thinking of getting the Vantec notebook cooler that was in Kilim's 5760 Review. It seems much more portable, and has good support.

With USB hub = approx 75$cdn
    Without: = approx 55$cdn

Surprisingly, the APC stand is not that unstable, even backward. The front holder is padded with a rubber insert that makes the notepad stick to the pad.

    It's also a great spacesaver.
