Well I went out today and bought a few next gen or pretty graphic games for this thing.. talk about wow.. Played Oblivion for like 6+ hours, and just reached the first Oblivion/ entered gate / fell in the lava in my attempt to look at the pretty stuff. playing at my native resolution without too much fuss tho I know I could drop the resolution and extend the draw distance and such farther out. I left the sliders at the default tho and just talk about Beautiful/Fun. I also bought the 7 Addon content CD for it and got my free Armored horse. I haven't done much side questing most of my time was spent in the forest areas exploring and being attacked by wolf. Dang Journey Man just about killed me when I came across one. had to cheat to win by standing on a stone/hill just barely out of range and pick him off with about a dozen arrows. Wow talk about sweet and addictive, and when you have almost everyone in the family watching you play out of interest alone only to hear a "ohhh" and "wow" what a impression.
I also played the intro to X3 Reunion 2.0 from Egosoft. Another game that looks sweet on screen and is one of the games I'm familiar with when I played the first X Beyond the Frontier on my Very old system back when I had my first computer. It's mainly a very Big Space Sim with Resource management and Base making abilities with a descent story if you followed the series.
I also got Medieval II: Total War but have not played it just yet. (installing as I post this.)
one thing I will say.. talk about HUGE install base for these games.. 2+gigs each. I'm starting to think I should of invested more in a bigger HD. Not that I could of at the time because I already went over budget. But I will be definitely be upgrading the drive in the next year or so.
Anyways thanks to this great community for the info on this bad boy.. I really actually stumbled on top of this whole MXM thing then that lead me to find this line of notebooks at the very end of my search when I nearly gave up because the MXM upgrade site doesn't exactly paint a pretty picture so I thought that it wasn't even a option except a select few with modified MXM.
These Clevo Lines are a real GEM!
take care, I'm going to go escape from reality for a few more *cough* minutes *cough* (yeah right) before heading off to bed.

Congrats on the new beast
Glad to hear first gaming impressions from new Clevo owners.
Make sure you take care of that thing.
- use Fn+F2 when gaming to toggle fans to Max Speed
- use a notebook cooler as well
- always connect the notebook to a good surge protector/UPS (dont plug it to a wall socket, power fluxes can cause damage to any sensitive electronic) -
LOL.. to be honest I usually toggle the MAX fan right after startup just because I'm likely to forget to during game play. With Music or Gaming going I really don't hear it. and after awhile it just fades from memory because we will eventually become desensitized to the noise and forget it there. At least I do.
-
yea I do the same thing, the fans at max are not very noticeable while gaming or doing other things.
Its good to keep your beast cool, so I keep my fans on max when I use it.
Oh yea, dont forget to monitor the CPU and GPU temps. -
How do the games look on wide screen? I've heard some games don't take well
to a native wide screen format. -
Oh, and what sized hard drive did you go with Exatrive?
-
games look the same if you set the game to native standard or widescreen resolutions.
only those that dont realize (or know how to) set the correct resolution says it looks bad or stretchy.
All current and new games have all resolutions available, if you play with you native resolution for your LCD panel, then there should be no issues.
Older games might need some tweaking to get the widescreen settings (ex. BF2) -
Then I can play through one without getting distracted by too many others.
Another option is to get a fast external drive (a desktop SATA drive in a fast USB2.0 or Firewire Enclosure). Then you can install as many games as you want and not lack for space.
I just got a 320G Seagate with 16MB cache in an external enclosure. Now I can store other stuff on that and not worry about running out of space for games on my lappy. -
I have too many games I think on my notebook at this time:
- UT2004
- BF2
- BF2142
- Call of Duty 4
- Marvel Ultimate Alliance
- Battle for Middle Earth 1 & 2
- C&C: Generals (w/ all expansions)
- Company of Heroes
- Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
I have only finished BFME1&2, Marvel and Call of Duty.... -
160 Gigs here.
Almost every new game I have played can be played in wide screen. In some games if you don't stick to the 1:1 scaling then your character on screen will gain about 20 pounds. On female game characters this doesn't really look right.
just think about when you watch a wide screen DVD on a 4:3 TV Tube. You will get black bars on the top and bottom. For gaming on a widescreen you get black bars on the sides instead, or can have it stretch to screen. -
Heh, how do you set the video drivers to run natively 1600x1200, with the black side bars? I'd like that for my MechWarrior4 addiction, but somehow i am always stretched. On another Dell laptop we have here at work, it's the opposite; I could'nt find a way to stretch the display. So when running at a lower rez, there was a black frame all around...
NVM, i'm stoopid, I found it in my nvidia control panel... Time to take a look at the dell now.

With regard to hard drive space, you should get the second drive for your modular bay and use Alcohol to rip your game discs to one or the other drive. I've got Oblivion, 2 copies of WoW, Supreme Commander, Doom 3, GTAIV, and several smaller games, plus 30 gig of music and 30 gig of movies, no sweat. Having 240 gigabytes total of space is sooo nice...

anyone playing stalker yet? what lighting settings are you using?
also how are you guys playing call of duty 4 and GTA 4? -
-
I haven't those games yet... Playing X3 Reunion, Oblivion, and trying that GTA SA Multiplayer, FEAR Multiplayer, and a little Medieval II. And working on a new background via 3d render.. What suprised me was to see TWO render lines go down the screen.. at first thinking something was really screwy.. then I remembered my dumb butt... I have DUEL CORE... and the 3d render takes advantage of both cores, render a wallpaper in half the time regenerated for my native resolution..
I really need to buy Farcry 2... that still looks very pretty on screen. -
-
Was actually talking about Farcry I but the first expansion.. I didn't ever realize that Farcry instinct was actually just a expansion. Played it coming from the underpowered X-BOX, can only imagine what it would look like on the PC. Right now I'm playing Fear. While I do like Oblivion I just get any money in that game without being bad (thief). Last dungeon I went into was fun but I went in unprepared, got diseased, became a weakling, became encumbered, had to drop a lot of stuff, couldn't really loot any new stuff.. forgot cure potions!. exited, and went to shoot some frustration in fear. Now been hooked on the single player.
I will eventually get back to Oblivion, but right now just enjoying the faster pace of the whole FPS. (hows that for going off topic.)
Anyways.. didn't even realize Farcry had another expansion called predator.
Crysis isn't out yet.. can't wait. -
I don't think those 2 farcry expansions are available on PC... I think they're XBOX only. I've never been able to find them.
-
gta 4 will be liberty city 2007...
cod4 is comming in fall. -
Can't wait for both...xD
-
gta 4 will be released for ps3 and xbox 360 in october, for PC little later in 2008(just as san andreas).
cod4 will come in fall for ps3, xbox 360, nintendo wii and PC again, since cod3 was only for consoles.
5760 Gaming impression!
