Hey i was wondering what an acceptable hard drive temperature was for a seagate Momentus 7200.2 160gb hdd. mine idles at 54 degrees C, and under max load (hd tune) it gets up to 63 degrees C. is this normal? the specs from seagate say the operating temp is from 0-60 degrees C. Thanks for the help in advance!
btw i dont have a cooler yet, but it is on a raised platform so air can get under it. i plan to buy the zaleman nc1000 but i need to make sure it will fit my computer (np5790)

temps seem normal.

+1, the operating temperature gets up to 60C under load depending on the room temperature.

The Zalman fits the NP5790 fine. Don't hesitate if you're thinking about buying. It is an impressive device.
-
Really...? I thought the high temp was because I have a Hitachi HDD.

I strongly recommend the NC-1000 for the 5790 even though Ive only used it for a day with the 5790
it also works great for my old toshiba satellite which is larger than the 5790.

update: i just bought the zalman and it should be here the end of this week! ill post again to see if it makes a difference!

I'm really interested to see the effectiveness of this cooler. It seems to be undersized for a 17in notebook...
Anyways, I'm also concerned about the hard drive temp in my 5790. Searching on the forums seems to suggest that mine is idling a little hot in the low 50s. -
Just to add my own support, the NC-1000 really is amazing. The NP5790 hangs over a little (not much at all) on the left/right side but fits fine on the front back. Unlike other cooling pads I've used, you can lift the laptop up after a while and put your hand between the cooler and the laptop and it's almost like air conditioning
I really like the angle it puts the laptop at too. -
update: i got the zalman a few days ago... it is really good! my comp is idling at 48 C for hdd and 47 C for cpu. i have only been surfing the internet for a couple of minutes, but the comp has been on all day! in games i notice that the hand rest doesn't get as hot as it used to! i think i average mid-low 50's for playing games, and i think the max i have gotten is 57 with the cooler, but i cant see the temp in game. ( the cooler has always been on max speed) if anyone wants to know any more lemme know!

you have to use RivaTuner to see temps in game.
