    Hey Everybody,
I'm considering getting the 5790 instead of the 2090 because i like the fact that i can get a bigger screen with a more powerful computer for about the same price (okay, a little more on some specs.) Plus, I don't want to wait for the 2090.

What i'm wondering (directed at those who have a 5790) is how clunky and bulky this laptop feels. I won't probably be moving it around much, just between college and my house, and a few friends houses in the city. But I went to best buy to get a feel for resolutions and computer size (the computer size is the only reason I am hesitant to buy the 5790) and found that some 17" felt about as big as a 15.4, but some just felt like a ton of bricks.

    now a few performance questions:
-How does Company of Heroes run on the 8700 on 1680x1050 (~2ghz, 2gb ram, vista, maxed/close)
-When is the white trim going to be available?
-What are we looking at in terms of arrival times to washington if ordered tommorow?
-To those of you in college (and if any of you are in engineering school...) how often do you take a computer to class? am i stabbing myself in the foot by getting a computer that is, for all intensive purposes, not portable?

    thanks for taking the time.

    well I get mine tomorrow.

I choose 17" over 15.4. I thought about getting the Asus G1S but wanted a bigger screen.

I got orange trim. The white is supposed to be available in September.
I got GeForce Go 7950 GTX, 8700 GT wasn't avaible when I ordered it.
I ordered from xoticpc.com July 23rd and it shipped July 31st. 3 day select. arrived august 3 (california) I don't have it now because it was shipped to my parents.

I have a Dell right now thats about 6.5lbs not too bad to carry around.

If you are worried about battery life, I heard it only last about an hour and a half.

I'll try and add more information about the weight when I get it tomorrow.

Where did you get the notion that the Sager 5790 is the same price as the 2090? The 2090 I configured (with pretty high specs: WSXGA+ matte, T7500, 1x2gb ram, 8600m gt, the works) comes to $1450 shipped. The similarly configured 5790 would cost at least over $1800, almost $400 more. But, if you have the budget, leap for the bigger, better gaming beast.

a.) From what I've read, the 8700m is just an OC 8600m gt. The real crown jewel of the Sager 5790 being its dual 7950 gtx graphics cards, I would get them to pack that extra powwow factor. Both GPUs should be sufficient for CoH, although the latter will be 20-30% better in performance.
b.) The white trim has an ETA of early September. Of course, you have to account for pre-production, build, testing, and shipping, which will set you back to late September at your doorstep. With college starting soon, I would just get the orange trim.
c.) If you order tomorrow, the Sager 5790 will be in your hands within 2 weeks, maybe less.
d.)Sorry, I can't answer that as I'm an incoming freshman. If you plan on taking it to classes on a daily basis, I won't recommend it due to its large dimensions and poor battery life. If you plan on leaving it on your desk, then the 7950 would be appropriate. Engineering schools as a rule are very intensive programs, and having a high-performance laptop rest easily at your convenience will undoubtedly alleviate some of the ECSS stress you will encounter. You may always choose to sit near the plugs in your classroom if that option is there.

As a general rule, I try to get a laptop that fits my demands and needs, not one that I have to build a schedule around to use.

    That's my .02, anyhow.

The Sager NP5790 only has ONE Go 7950GTX instead of the dual 7950GTXs you were talking about... But yea, I agree that 7950GTX has better in-game performance than the 8700M GT. ;)

    thanks for the quick responses.
The cost came from when I ended up configuring a 2090 on xoticpc with all the bells and whistles for about 2k, and the 5790 with pretty damn good stuff for about the same.

oh, and I may not be looking in the right place, but the reason i was talking about the 8700 is because on xotic i wasn't able to select the 7950 to configure.

The Go 7950GTX is still there! You just need to go to this page http://www.xoticpc.com/product_info.php/cPath/51_150/products_id/2023?wconfigure=yes and click on the tab which says 8700M GT and select the Go 7950GTX below it and it will cost $100 more than the 8700M GT. ;)

    Thanks!

But I am still wondering about how the 5790 feels; like a wide and thick like a couple of bricks, or more like a rather large rectangular pancake

read my review, =), and it's definitely not like a brick, it's not as thick as you might think it is.
