I haven't used it yet. Maybe in a few days when I get some "free time" I'll give it a try. Feel free to PM me to remind me :)

I suppose you can buy one by yourself and just stick it in, right?
Doesnt have to be a specific part #..?

So, I recorded three 1-minute clips earlier today. These clips are probably a reasonable demonstration of the quality you could expect after the 5-minute setup procedure. I am uploading them right now, so I should be able to post links within a couple of hours. (They are ~67 MB each, and I'm not about to tamper with them using compression software.)

I was disappointed to find that the software they chose to include for television recording is not the most recent version. It would cost $50 to upgrade from 4.7 to 5.0. I suppose I don't know what I'm missing.

I doubt you're missing much. There's nothing they can really do to improve quality through firmware, and any special capture/compression things you can download from a third party.

It actually appears to be a proprietary port. (If anyone can tell me what "standard" it adheres to, I'd be interested.) The notebook comes with two tiny little adapters that can be used to convert it to take a standard coaxial cable or an antenna.

Edit: On closer inspection, it is labelled "CATV".
