my temps were way up there. i also have a friend who has a pre built system (mine was barebones) and i decided about an hour ago to pull both systems apart to reapply arctic silver thinking maybe the layer was to thick or not enough. it TURNS OUT THE COPPER PLATE WAS ONLY TOUCHING HALF THE CPU.....!!! IT WAS THE SAME ON BOTH SYSTEMS. THE SIDE NEAREST the fan for the cpu was not at all even touching the top of the cpu sink.. i bent the heat tube on the heatsink a bit to get it to sit flat on there, this took about 5 or 6 tries to get it to sit perfect. i re-applied arctic silver each time to see where it was touching and where it was not. im now back on the same system and my cpu fan has yet to spool up to high for maybe more than 20sec.. and my temps are perfect now. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! i honestly was very worried about my new cpu and thought id have a issue soon. this is what it runed out to be so if you are experiencing heat or high temps or constant cpu fan running or it always spinning on high this could very well be your issue.

DO NOT BEND THE HEAT TUBE fast. make sure to do it very gently so you dont accidentally crimp it closed. it will bend very very easy so just please be careful. also make sure to re-tighten the 3 screws in the right order labeled on the heatsink plate. start with #1 and just start it then place #2 in and start that one, then place #3 in and again start it. now go around and tighten them in a uniform pattern a little each at a time. they will seat on the posts when they are tight enough then stop.

if you have any questions lmk ill help any way i can. wow the system is nice and quiet now.. what a relief..

Just curious, what was your cpu temps prior to the fix and after? Mines running at 54c right now using the Targus chillpad. Just surfing right now.
