Need some input on which model might suite me best. I'm a real estate agent out in Montana, so I do travel around a bit. I do quite a bit of multi tasking, several work documents up at once and also I do several searches in a mls program for my clients. To top it off the office I work for holds meetings on a daily basis and we do use a projector thats run off our computers. To top it all off I do want to be able to play games like crysis on decent settings and I would prefer to be able to upgrade parts of the laptop as time goes by.
All that being said which of these two do you think would suite me best? Since my office does have meetings every day and the room is not the largest, would the 5792's fans be to loud? Is the 9262 any quieter? Future upgrades, there are already 5792's with penryn inside, but I can't find any info on the 775 socket in the 9262 supporting penryn desktop chips. Is it true the LGA775 socket is being replaced soon? How do the units compare quality wise? The plastics on the 5792 don't look that impressive from the pictures I've seen and the 9262 looks more professional. Also I should note that weight isn't important.

You do a lot of multitasking? if you have the money for it, get the 9262. Quad core, 4 gigs or fast ram,2 gpus, 3 hdds...all the powerhouse you need. But you have to be a sturdy fellow, the thing gets pretty heavy when fully packed(~20 lbs) .

The 5792 is far more portable, but not worth it. Has less then half the power of the 9262 and only get you about a half hour more battery life. And ha a loud fan issue.I have one, can`t take it anywhere, damn thing is insanely disturbing.
My advice, get the 9262 as it is the most powerful laptop in the world.Quieter also.

Buy the 9262... I had the oppurtunity to see and try the both of them and the 5792 is just too loud... You will make crazy any people inside your office. The 9262 is much more silent and a far better notebook.

My 5792 fans are only loud when the GPU is being stressed out, i.e. gaming (as I would expect) -- and even then its far from 'insanely' loud (my desktop 8800GTX sounded like tornado compared to this). I use it in the office all day long for 'everyday tasks' with no sound problems. But, catch me at lunch and those fans will probably be cranked up :D

The 9262 is more powerful, but for me personally, there is no way to justify the hefty price tag. A quad core would be a complete waste for what you are going to be doing with the laptop. My god, I can think of very few applications where a C2D isn't going to fit the bill.

The 5792 looks VERY good in person. I have had several people at my office say how nice it looks.

As I stated it on all threads related, the damn fan kicks in when core temp reaches 48 C(118.4 F) and cools it down to 44C (112.2 F). In a quiet room or where people work, read, study or pay attention to class, IT`S DISTURBING. Trust me, I live in a room where ambient temp is 20C (68 F ) and my brother simply cannot sleep because of the noise. Hell, I can`t sleep because of it. Compared to this, my Nx9420 is mute :D

I`m currently working on ways to reduce noise, and so far I gathered that Undervolting might help. Also, trying to set a profile to downclock the gpu frequencies to such a level that the fan will not even kick in ( at least on battery mode and powersaver...)
Bottom line, get the 9262, you won`t regret it...

I'm not sure then, mine doesn't seem to have that issue when I'm using it for anything other than gaming. That's the only time my temps get high enough for me anyhow.

I would also consider the weight of the two laptop.s While they are both 17's the np9262 is really a monster. I ordered a NP9262 myself but because I take it out of the bag and have it on for 4+ hours all the time (school, work, gaming) I am not worried about the weight. But if this laptop is something you will be using alot "here and there" they weight may be something to consider. If the average usage time on the road is 15 minutes, 20, 30 or even hour and you do those quite frequently then the size of the np9262 may come into play.

Just my thoughts on it. I think either laptop would suit you fine :)

According to Paladin from powernotebooks, The 9262 only weights around 13 lbs. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2815145#post2815145 Post # 4.

Thats along way from 20 lbs.

Thank you everyone I appreciate the input. I think I am going to go with the 9262. It does seem like the best choice for multitasking and I suppose the term desktop replacement suits this model. The noise the units make is very important since it would me more than just myself having to deal with it.
