I got my 5792 today . Would have been yesterday if i wouldnt miss the UPS guy .
So anyway , its a very nice machine with amazing sturdy build quality . Runs pretty good , i went with Vista HP x64 .

    But i ran into a problem . GPU-z shows video card clocks at 383/301 . When i ran 3dmark06 it scored only 4700ish .

Ive tried installing 169.28 , same result . Cant get atittol to work to check the clocks . Rivatuner is a bit confusing for me . I havent been using at all .

Any ideas ? I have a fresh install of Vista with the stock drivers .

I tried setting it to either of the 3 , along with Performance mode . Same result GPU-z ( v 0.1.5. )shows 383/301 . Also it seems to be freezing up randomly whenever i insert my USB memory key or/and any other device .

Check out Gophn`s guide about Riva Tuner. Silly question, but are you running on battery mode?also , select always on at the power icon(battery icon thingy).
If the speeds are indeed lowered it is by program, and this should fix it. Or Riva tuner.

    Checked again . Power settings : performance . Running on AC . Stock drivers . Same thing 383/301 ( Gpuz ( 0.1.5 and 0.1.4 )).

Vista has a few minor tweaks enabled . OS set to performance .

There is nothing wrong with vista . It might be slightly slower in some cases , but properly installed and tweaked it runs just as good as any other XP .

Does anyone else have this problem? I have the same laptop coming, and problems with the 8800 are not something I like to hear about.

    CLTVR,

When you look in device manager, what is the driver version? The last 5 numbers should be 16743 (167.43).

My 3DMARK is only slow when I UPGRADE the driver. Stock is 8500-8700 ish. With upgraded 169.25 or 169.28 I am ~4500...YUCK

Could it be that some power saving feature is enabled? Is there anything in the BIOS that might throttle the card?

I'm running 169.28 and have no problems with mine.

Edit: Rivatuner 2.06 didn't show the hardware monitoring buttons for my install of 169.28.

I cannot figure it out I see that the modded inf is about 45k whereas the stock inf is ~90k.

I dont get it myself . Since i cant seem to be able to monitor clocks by any other program ( for now ) i would assume GPU-z is messed up or something .

I ran Crysis with no tweaks , 169.28 drivers , fresh Vista HP install with some tweaks and it played just fine .

1680x1050 with a combination of medium/high settings ( dont have fraps cant tell what FPS i was getting but my gaming experience tells me it was it was around 30-low teens ) .

Also ran WoW . MAx settings ( 1680x1050x32, plus x8 multi sampling i think , all sliders to the right ) . Constant 50-60 FPS in Shattrah .

    Installing GoW and fraps ...

Bottom line - GPU-z doesnt show correct clocks . RivaTuner doesnt fully support 8800M GTX right now ( or so it seems ) . AtiTool needs a digitally signed driver in order to allow to mess around with clocks .
    Ideas ??..

Have either of you tried NVIDIA nTune? You can view temps and change clocks.

(I used in some OC'd benches with Ultimate 64)

    Thanks Justin.

It is just strange that when I update the driver to 169.25 or 169.28, 3Dmark06 reports a huge drop in performance. Is this due to a problem with 3Dmark?

The VISTA performance monitor also goes down, from 5.8 to 5.4

Out of curiosity, what refresh rates are available for the screen? Someone posted in another thread that the only refresh rate available for his 5792 was 59hz.
