woah what the heck lol. didn't even know you ordered one. must a missed that... so much for the m860tu then huh? well good luck and have fun with your new machine.
-
when i instal a fresh copy if windows the old video drivers are gone right? i can just follow the instructions to install the new drivers
And ya since PCMW didn't keep their word and i was on a time constraint just went with the 5793 -

Yes, when you format your drive for the new installation your old drivers will be erased.
-
they are not technically erased though are they
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
What do you mean by not "technically" erased?
Maybe a forensic expert could go in and find them on the hard drive, but a format will do all that is necessary. -
dont you have to data dump a drive before its actually gone?
-
Congratulations, and enjoy your new machine!
-
Why do you guys complicate matters?
A simple format is sufficient, delete the old partition and install a new copy of Vista, simple as that. -
-
gah.. reinstalled
vista and now ut wont connect to the net... The wireless tab wont show up at all in the connetions options.. only broadband and dial up show up -
Nvm got it to work. I thought the wireless driver was on the cds that came. Apparently not. I had to burn them to a cd off of intel website and then install it.

How To Erase HD For good -
Oh boy.
Have you guys checked the airport security thread down on OT ? that was hilarious -
Well I think i did a full erase, when i installed 175.75 there were no conflicts or anything. 3dMark06 reported a score of 9678 everything on stock. Today i guess ill try Set FSB and maybe the modded Vbios that's been going around. Oh and awesome laptop so far. Huge improvement over my 2.1 Athlon procec and a 7800gt.
And getting used to Vista is going to take some time. Took me like 30 minutes to find how to add "Computer" instead of My Computer to desktop lol.
In my C Drive, do i need the Inte/Logs folder, there doesn't seem to be anything in it, and Perflogs/admin. -
Don't worry, Vista will grow on you fast. Just make sure you have SP1 installed.
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
-
175.75 with 2.5 dual core, 4g rams 8800gtx
-
For the record, that is a nice score, but you must remember, even similarly specced systems can have a 500 point difference among them...
-
Synthetic benchmark so not to big of a difference. Will run gaming benchmarks to see if they are up there also. OH and 2nd reformat forgot to partition drives
-
no problemo, use GParted for that.
-
Doesn't Vista also have a partition editor as well?
-
woohooo!! yay for you! im sure you'll enjoy it
-
Vista has it ,yes, but it's very limited.
Unless you have but one partition to begin with, the Disk Management tool will give you headaches. -
Fan question, when we toggle the different fan functions fn+f3 there arent any visual confirmations right. It just happens nothing is supposed to show up?
-
No, they aren't any visual confirmations. What you hear on fn + 1 versus fn + 3 will let you know, however.
-
If you're unsure as to what setting you're on, just hit fn+1...you'll hear it get way louder...then hit it again and you're back on auto
-
And do try to have it set on auto for gaming. Medium mode might let it get a little hot.
Also, keep in mind it's fn + 1 or 3, not fn and f1, f3
Congrats on the machine btw! -
FN+1 = full blast, , FN+1 again=auto mode
FN+3 = medium mode, FN+1 or FN+3 =auto mode. -
eleron911 is the god of fans.
-
Hey eleron how easy and safe is Gparted to use? Its just burn iso to bootable disk and follow instructions?
-
Yep,totally safe.
I used it myself sinc I had 2 partitions and needed to resize my OS one, and the vista management tool is crap and was not much help.
It's good for starters, but if you create 2 partitions, that's it.
However if you're not fully confident about it,it's better to back up everything and only then use GParted.
But it's pretty simple ,just follow instructions after burning the botable...there are also tutorials for it. -
Well 3.0ghz OC using set fsb gave me BSOD, guess ill try 2.9
Scare to try now lol.. -
Well, 2.8 should be enough actually. It's a stock X9000 you know
And after that, go about Undervolting it -
2.8 is stable guess ill stick with that since its unstable at 3.0.
Now do i want to apply the modded vbios or not hmm..
Temps are 35 idle for CPU
49 idle for 8800
57 for HD <----- higher than everything else -
with GPU OC'ed, you are more likely to be stick with 2.6ghz max of cpu.
-
I guess ill try both and see which gives me better results, i guess CPU OC would be the best.
-
Is it normal for some weird, not really sure if its weird cause its my first time hearing it. But i hear some weird whirring noises by the bottom left where the left palm rest is under high load. NOt sure if its weird since its my first time hearing it. ALso the palm rests get a bit warm but i guess thats normal. Oh and are there any new fixes that fix the sluggishness when this thing is on battery?
Just going to keep at 2.8, 3dmark gives me 10694 which is good enough i guess. -
Hot palm rest - hdd and chipset area, Audigy sort of fixed that...
About the battery : it's a vista thing. Can be disabled but you don`t want to do it trust me.
Check out my guide and go to the undervolting section.
I get 2 h with max LCD brightnessor 3+ with min lcd brightness....
-
What do you mean Audigy sort of fixed that? Is there something i should be doing?
Checking out the UVing thing soon. Games take forever to install no matter what comp you on lol..
Oh wait, the left side is probably hot because thats where the cd drive is spinning game install disks for about 3 hours now...
Is a HD Temp of 58 ok?
