I've got an XP 5793 that sometimes has problems waking from sleep. I haven't been able to get it to do this regularly so I don't know how to diagnose it. I've also been having problems with BSOD's while gaming... reinstalling games hasn't helped so right now I've wiped the drive and I'm reinstalling everything to see if its still happening. Any suggestions for things I can check out?

The memory dumps contain some infos regarding the BSODs. I could have a look for you and see who the culprit is. Seeing that you already wiped it...I guess we need to wait for a new BSOD
.

well, in a lot of cases, it´s a bad driver causing this. typical candidats like in 80 % of the cases i have seen are graphics driver, sound driver, wlan , ethernet....
you might wanna check them, and it would be a good thing if you could tell a little bit more about the bsod. what´s the message and the number that are displayed during in the bluescreen ? -
I'm using stock 167.43 drivers with my 8800 and all other drivers are also stock. i can't get the message or BSOD code... it flashes up and the laptop reboots itself. like wishmaker suggested above, i'll probably have to post the temp dump files if this disc wipe doesnt work.

Sounds like your unit is suffering from the S3(standby) issue with first revision 579xs .
Maybe you need to update your BIOS, you should have NO sleep issues,I mean, that`s what the 579 2 and 579 3 were for, to eliminate the sleep issue with the 8800M GTX.
Change video driver, and consider updating the BIOS.
PM Zfactor for the files. -
yes can you please check what version your bios is for me?? hold down the f2 key during boot up to go to the bios right there on the opening bios screen it will tell you what version you have. if you have anything less than 1.00.08 you may see this issue.
also try to uninstall and DELETE the video drivers. you can use driver sweeper or similar. once this is done reboot allow windows to install generic vga drivers. then it may ask for a reboot. if so reboot. then install the newer 174.90 from sager web site under the download section. or you may also choose a newer one from laptop2go.. then reboot again.
also please tell me if you have it set to go to sleep or is it set to hibernate?? if you are using the hibernate function its very possible your hibernate file is corrupt or has issues. if the problem persists after the above please try to run chkdsk /f from the dos prompt as administrator. then reboot and see if it fixes anything..for now that is all i can think of.. -
rawr...
thanks for the help guys. i got the 5793 shipped just days after justin announced it... my bios version is 1.00.08S (62.92.23.00.14) build date 12/03/07. it is set for standby (i disabled hibernate). -
Hmm . Z whadda you think, is it the first unit with sleep issue around, right?
Cause even upgraded 5790/1 users have not experienced it... -
yeah but he shouldnt have those issues because he has the new mobo ver 5.0 or higher on the 5793.. so that is wierd.
and yeah i dont know a single person with the 8800 on a 5790/1 that had the sleep issues after upgrading. i personally installed 5 of them for people i know with the system and not a single one had the issues. they were perfect.. -
BSOD, well , check the RAM, you might have bad ones.
Use Memtest for it. -
agreed test the ram out and see.. let it run through a full pass though. it may take some time. but at least this will rule that out in this case
-
heh, ok, i'll try that next. i thought it was running fine until it killed itself three times while playing wc3. here's the codes:
BCCode : 1000008e
BCP1 : C0000005
BCP2 : B8992BEE
BCP3 : B68BE70C
BCP4 : 00000000
OSVer : 5_1_2600
SP : 3_0
Product : 768_1 -

at risk of sounding like an idiot... can someone explain how to use iso files? i thought the memtest would be an executable but im unfamiliar with burning iso's to discs and booting from them...
-
hmm have you run memtest??
id also like you to get occt. google it. its free and it will stress the system and see if it can make it crash basically. while doing occt run real temp (again google it its free) to monitor your temps. real temp is much better than the rest with the newer dual cores.
we want to eliminate one part at a time.. memtest will eliminate the ram..
im going to look at your dump now -
which iso are you trying to burn?? -
memtest86+
http://www.memtest.org/ -
http://www.ocbase.com/ ---occt
http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/ ---real temp -
memtest completed and passed. OCCT test completed and passed... temps never went higher than 58C during the stress test.
did the dump files provide any clues? -
i'm looking at updating my video card drivers. above someone mentioned using the 174.90 driver. arent the 174.90 drivers only for vista? can it be used for XP? is the 167.46 XP OK? i thought i saw something where people said it was downclocking their cards...?
-
no the newest driver from sager is the 174.90 so you will be fine..
the newest non official drivers are the 175.xx ones they are supposed to have solved the downclock issue but i cant say for sure.
im stumped without having it in my hands here.. the only other easy thing i can think of is a driver issue...or possibly another component that could be causing the issue.. maybe even the wifi.. could be a lot of things at this point.. -
Guys.... I get a BSOD when I try to run nTune. The second I click the .exe, Windows crashes. This happens with any video driver I use. I tried reinstalling nTune as well, but no go....
-
to give this thread some closure to those who have been following, it seems the problem is gone. after a day of "extensive testing" (gaming my butt off) it seems the issue was related solely to warcraft3. more specifically it seemed to be the sound driver the game was using. at first i was using the "creative labs eax" but once i switched it to "dolby surround" it stopped crashing. i dont know what the problem was but it seems to be running fine. thanks to everyone for their help, particularly zfactor who took the time to peruse my dump files in an effort to diagnose the problem.
maybe the sleep issue wont come back too.i swear that it VERY RARELY locks up. that problem i'll leave for another day.
-
great news that its fixed.. sometimes these things are so hard to diagnose over the net.. but i figured it was either a heat/mem issue or a driver issue.. not much else that could cause that type of error. wierd though it didnt show that in the dump.. ill look it over again but i def dont remember seeing that in there..
