I've used speedfan, HWmonitor, and HDTune. My hard drive reaches 53 celsius while just surfing the web, and 62 while defraging. On a cold boot its like 28 cel. Should I worry about this? HD model (ST9160823AS) segate 7200 rpm. All other temps are fine for cpu & GPU. Please post HD temps with similar specs thanks.

I got the 200 GB version of that HD, mine is about the same temps.
Running in the low 50'ies normally and under defragging/virus scanning it will hit 60-61°C. As ive written in another thread, I think in general that the HD temps of the M57xRU is quite high in general, at least with the 7200 rpm disks.
I dont know about the 5400 rpm ones, they should be a bit cooler, but its also a sacrifice in performance sadly
Would recommand that you get your self a notebook cooler or atleast raise the lappy, while doing tasks like defragging just to be sure. The operation temperatures of Seagate Momentus 7200.2, as you (and I) have, is from 0-60° C. -
Yeah, that sucks were reaching max parameters with those temps. Ther are some of the hitachi 2.5'' drives, im curious to see there temps. Thx for the info M3z3iAs, glad im not alone.

My max Hd temp was 58C. It`s a 5400rpm one, and it hit 58 when I accidentaly left the forced medium fan speed on.
Appart from that,usually in-between 47C and 55C.
For the 7200rpm ones, about 3-4 C more are expected.
So your temps are normal. -
My Hitachi 200gig 7200 rpm drive was running fairly hot at when I first installed it, but now runs in the low 45-50s
Running with the Zalman 2000 cooler and maxing my fans brings that even lower. As I type this im running around 40-41 -
jmanrob: No problem mate
But yes, we are reaching some pretty high temps, tho I dont think anything will happen, more than a slight decrease of lifetime, if its running >60°C all the time
Most harddrives dont take damage until somewhere above 70°C
eleron911: If the max temp was below 60°C I wouldn't be alarmed either, but as it does tend to raise above 60°C, I would be looking after it a bitAs I said above, I dont think anything will happen, but its not dump to be safe
Dimemaker: That is some nice temps for a 7200 rpm one ! -
I may buy that Zalman 2000 for my notebook. Whats a good program to back up my HD, I mean everything including windows and all? I want to be able to transfer everything to another HD w/o having to update or reinstall windows. Im not familiar with clone programs or backup utilites. Thanks...

I didn't take the bottom panel off yet to explore the 5793 but I suspect there is no vent near the HD. I can feel the heat on the bottom. Maybe clevo should add a small vent for HD.

I think ill have to get my self one of thoes at some time
About the HD back-up, im not much into that, but i think there are some threads about it, here on the forum
Another fan would result in more noise, also it shouldn't be needed really
An update on my HD temps, they seem to have mystically lowered, as its now ideling "only" in the high 40'ies, not in the low 50'ies anymoreI cannot find any reason to that, as my other temps are as they use to be.

If you do constant download or have a program that does reads/writes all the time, the temps will increase.
Operating temps : 0-60C are ok. You may cross that line with 1-2C under max disk usage, but as long as you`re under 60C, you`re fine.
Disable any hdd intensive apps and make sure you`re system isn`t doing disk thrashing all the time(ie don`t let the AV scan every hour, make it once a day, don`t download and play games and watch movies in the same time etc.)
Mine nowadays stays under 50C,when I don`t download anything, and about 55C when I download and game in the same time. -

I havent disabled the pagefile or anything, as im running with "just" 2 gigs of ram.
But my HD still seems to keep under 50°C when ideling/playing music. Its only in intensive tasks ie. Virus scanning/Defragging that it will jump up to around the 60'ies
5793 HD temps.....
