Hi guys,
Wondering if you guys know what cable(s) I need to hookup my 5793 to my home theatre system for full 5.1 sound? I already have a SPDIF cable which I utilize but most of the games I play dont output in Dobly so the surround sound isnt utilized since there is no option to setup speakers to force 5.1, its just digital output which comes out stereo. Sounds great though.![]()
I think I'll need to utilize the audio ports on the front of the laptop for my games to process 5.1 sound as thats the only option that allows me to configure 5.1 speakers through the Realtek Audio Manager... I don't want to use the Sound Blaster Express Card as thats super buggy and it works half the time on my laptop.
I'm using a Pioneer 1018ah receiver if thats any help. Anyone know if there is a single cable that has the required 3.5mm connectors on one end for the laptop and the RCA male connector on the other for the receiver end?

I think you will need 3x 3,5mm to RCA cables to get analogue 5.1...
Maybe you can take a picture of the back of your receiver, that would make it easier to see what you really need... -
Here it is...

I went over this many many times over the months.

its using coax SPDIF.
you will need a 3.5mm mono to RCA. -

yes, that is possible, get 3x 3.5mm stereo to dual rca cables and connect them to the 3 coloured ports on the front of the pc. As you plug them in the realtek software will ask what you just plugged in, just select center/sub, front l/r and rear l/r for the appropriate cables

Yes, use 3x 3.5mm Stereo to Dual RCA cables. Then connect it something like this.
Remember to assign the correct ports in the RealTek options.
I assume you can't use the SPDIF output because it only works with programs/DVD-movies that has 5.1 Dolby codec "built-in"?
Whereast if you use the solution with 3x3.5mm cables, you will get 5.1 audio in most applications.
At least this is the problem I am having, and therefore I use the 3x3.5mm cables instead of SPDIF.
Only problem I am having with this solution, is that when you use the 3x3.5mm cables, which are analogue, you get very much static noise in your speakers, due to the M570rus crappy on board audio. This will not happen with SPDIF. -
Great, thanks for the help. This should help with what I need. Great diagram too.
You guys know if I use the digital coax cables but with rca male splitters and a 3.5 adapter on the other end will the sound quality improve or with there be minimal difference? -
Nah that won't help, as audio is still sent from the analogue channels on the M57*RU/TU.
The problem here is that the M57*RU/TUs soundcard is not shielded or grounded properly, or it's just of really bad quality. There's not much that can be done about the static noise unfortunately, except for maybe using an external 5.1 USB soundcard, or, as mentioned, use the digital output (which is not really an option for you and me because of those stupid Dolby codecs) -
Also, you need 3.5mm STEREO to DUAL RCA, I believe the digi coax is 3.5mm MONO, therefore you wouldn't get true 5.1

Great, thanks. I'll check out those cables and try out that setup.
