    Hey guys,

I am now enjoying my lappy since last month, and I have one last issue: random crashes. I get a blue screen, I just have the time to see a few hex numbers, then my notebook restarts right away. Happened twice during a game :(
I checked event logger, there is an error around the crash time about ITE Remote Controler service. I have the latest drivers from sagernotebook.com.

    I have 2 questions:
    - What's the point of this remote IR thing? Software only install me a driver and some program in the taskbar, but how do I use it?
    - Is there a way to disable it? Usually I'd just go to Device Manager and disable the device in properties, but the option is grayed out.

    Thanks, and happy new year!

Did the event log item contain any specific error codes, or an Event ID?

IR is mostly useless. I think there is a way to control Windows Media Center with it, control a TV, do uber slow file transfer, and print to a IR capable printer. Outside of that, its useless.

Was there any more specific error information; typically, there should be an error code along with four error parameters, each expressed in hexadecimal form like so: 0xQQRRSSTT, where Q, R, S, and T are each an alphanumeric character from the set 0-9,a-f.

Unfortunately, as you well know, that is one of those useless error messages that provides no good info. There's a website called eventid.net, which provides a fair amount of info on WinOS event ids, and their webpage for event id 7000 shows that it's sort of a grab-bag of different errors. The types of errors that might show up under event id 7000 from the service manager are listed on this webpage. If you've a lot of time and you're tired of sorting your sock drawer, you might want to read through some of that to see if there's anything illuminating there.

If I read the specific error message correctly, it's saying that the specified file was not found (Le fichier specifie est introuvable), correct?

I had a similar error that was intermittent, and hasn't shown up for about a month now, where the driver for the wireless pcmcia adapter I have would fail to find one of its files on bootup, and would cause a BSOD; however, since it stopped showing up before I thought about reinstalling the driver, I have no idea if that would have helped my issue.

I would try uninstalling, and then reinstalling, the particular driver (the one for the ITE remote controller) because it might be that the driver is corrupt.

Another possibility is that your hard drive might be going out of spec and developing too many bad sectors, which might be occuring in the area where the driver in question is located. That might cause the computer to be unable to find the file it's looking for. For this, I would run a diagnostic (you can download a diagnostic utility from the website of your hdd's manufacturer for free) and see if it's having a problem with bad sectors or if there's anything else that's going out of spec.

Beyond that, if the BSOD happens again, do your best to remember and write down the string of 5 numbers that will be shown, which should look something like this:
    Code:
    Stop 0x123345678 (0x9abcdef0, 0x12345678, 0x9abcdef0, 0x12345678)

Some HDD manufacturers do not provide non-destructive, or windows based tools, but seagate's " SeaTools for Windows" works very well and supports all hard drive manufacturers

    hey guys...
I thought I resolved my issue, by simply 'deactivate' the IR driver... But it happened again. Was playing wacraft3, when it suddenly crashed on me.

This time I found the option in windows to not reboot when an error occured, so I unchecked the option in system properties, then played again, waiting patiently for it to occur again... and it did, and here's the result:

After a bit of google, it seems it is my sound card/driver:

I tried drivers from the CD, and from sagernotebook.com. I reformatted 3 times with differents combinations... help!

Did you uninstall the old drivers before installing the new drivers?

I just did that, and installed the most recent drivers I got directly from http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/... I need to do more testing but it seems fine! Thanks again Syster1, you've been immensely helpful.
