I've had my 5793 for about a year and a half and just tried to use the remote control the other day for the first time. Some of the buttons worked with some media programs. But not all of them and some of them did the wrong function.

Is there a way to configure its use?

    there are two remotes...
    - a Windows Media Center compatible version
    - and a 3rd party remote that is mainly used with the TV Tuner software.

if you have the 2nd one, then you can try to configure the remote's software to see if you can get it to do what you want.

I think I have the TV Tuner one...anyone else have it and found it to work or is it basically a paper weight?

i have an AverMedia remote that is for the internal TV Tuner.

it works fine for the TV Tuner software, I do not expect more out of it.
