So I tried watching my first Blu-ray movie on my laptop over the weekend and had some problems. The Cyberlink PowerDVD blu-ray program that came installed with the laptop kept giving me an error about my graphics driver. I downloaded cyberlinks "blu-ray adviser" program and sure enough, everything was listed as good expect the display driver.

I was originally using the 180.43 Vista 64bit driver from laptopvideo2go.com. I tried using an older driver version 178.xx and it still gave me the same problem. I then went and downloaded the original drivers off of sager's website and then it all worked fine.

So basically my question is has anyone else had this problem and if so, is there an easy fix? I'd like to go back to using the 180.43 drivers since they ran my games pretty good but I would hate to have to keep switching back every time I wanted to watch a movie. :(

Oh and every time windows loads now, I get a message saying "brs has failed to load". Google says brs has something to do with the PowerDVD program. This only started happening after I got the program to start working.

Its funny cause i just went through this exact same thin last night.

I was running 180.43 and had to go back to the ones of sagers site. I did some research and found out the drivers need to be WHQL approved. I tried one of approved ones 177.XX but they didnt work either. Im just taking a wild guess here but maybe they need to be digitaly signed as well?

When i use my blue ray with teh sager drivers it was pretty glichy between chapters. It was pretty annoying.

Least I'm not the only person with this problem. The Blu-ray movie's playback was pretty nice though, I didn't have any problems. Gogo Indian Jones!

Yeah, unfortunately you need a whql driver for bluray to work. If you use any driver from laptopvideo2go with a modded inf (even if it says whql) then the modded inf will break the whql. In order for bluray to work, you need an original whql driver that has not been modified. This basically means a driver from clevo/sager.

    Yay for hdcp

On XP this works - AnyDVD to get the thing to read, then WMP Classic with the K-Lite codec pack. Needs a bit of fiddling with, though.

Power DVD is a load of HDCP infested junk (as is Vista). If a piece of software polices the user and protects a third party above the user, it should be free.

I have the same problem now. I cant go back to the old sager dirves, thats just F***** stupid. I get like 50% more fps with the new 180.44 ones. Is there any other other program other then powerdvd that will play bluray movies without this stupid GPU driver issue.?

Can I join you? :D Stupid morons. I don't know what the solution is to piracy, but as you can see, Microsoft/Sony and the others have just made life a misery for those with genuine BR players, genuine discs and genuine O/S's. By contrast, all the pirates I know are not having any of these issues.

The whole point of HDCP is that unless MS and the others don't approve of all your software and hardware, you are watching low-res, like it or not. That said, have you tried AnyDVD and Nero playback?

I was having these issues and switched to windvd 9 pro or something like that. I'm still using the sager approved drivers from their site. I havent tried going to the newer ones yet.

Windvd imo is way better than powerdvd. Its less glitchy and plays better. When i watched the hulk on powerdvd it got all glitchy between each chapter and wouldnt even play the iron disk. Once i played these again with windvd all the problems went away.

I have no problems using Non-WHQL drivers with powerDVD8 and AnyDVD HD under XP.

Its funny how people complain about needing MS certified drivers in Vista as opposed to XP then they brag about how its a superior OS with all of the Big Brother features they supposedly don't care about.

Those BD live disks like Ironman can still cause issues if your software isn't up to date though. With HD DVD I never had any of these issues...
Even with the updated software Ironman can hang a software player with no error if it can't connect online. Turning the online functionality off fixes the issue. There was/is a capacity problem with the servers they were using for BD-live.

I bet next thing we will see is imported BD-live disks not playing if your in the wrong region or can't connect online. I would say that I probably shouldn't have said that, but I bet they already are planning on rolling out this new "feature" soon.
