Hi I'm going to be purchasing a Sager 5793 soon with the 8800 graphics card and was wondering if I should purchase windows vista or xp (64 bit) with it? I am mostly going to be using it for gaming for games like Age of Conan and Warhammer Online

Well, as you have had noone posting saying vista sux, that is a good indication that vista no longer sucks...

I recommend vista x64. I have bee using it for the past year or so without any problems and I like it.

I ran XP64 on my 5793 briefly. I could never find drivers for the camera (STK-1135) or infrared. It's got no problems otherwise. At this point tho I'm not sure XP64 is a good long-term move. I ended up going to Vista x64.

So is Vista Home Premium 64bit is better or Vista Ultimate 64bit is a better option for Gaming... Taking out the money factor

Never said _Vista "sucked;" however, it's not an overall improvement over XP, in particular in terms of longevity of security support. Unless you have one of the business editions of _Vista, you will lose security support from MS in 2012, two years earlier than XP, for which security support expires in 2014. That's not an improvement.

Are there areas where _Vista is better than XP - you bet - however, overall, _Vista is either no better than, or in some cases is worse than, XP. This is particularly the case with overall performance - throughput - which even Microsoft has acknowledged was given second place to maintaining the appearance that things were happening. In particular, functions that do not provide tell-tales on the GUI are frequently deferred in favor of functions that affect the GUI in order to minimize the appearance of jerkiness or momentary freezing of the GUI. For example, disk I/O will generally defer to updating the screen, even if it's just to keep the mouse pointer moving around smoothly. To my mind, that's not an improvement.

No difference at all to my knowledge... Home premium might even be a bit faster probably since it runs less stuff than Ultimate that I would never use.

Yeah I'm curious about Home vs Ultimate 64-bit as well. I ordered Home 64-bit on my M860TU but I'm not sure if that was the right move.

I would think theres no noticeable difference. But since ultimate has more "stuff/programs" running on it that makes it ultimate, I would think it uses slightly more ram than home edition. But 64-bit is definitely the way to go. Can't believe Dell or Alien don't offer 64-bit yet, if only more people knew.

    Vista!
have used XP for quite some time, and vista also, and today I finally switched to Vista permanently.
The XP look got too boring and annoying.

I agree it is boring by default compared to Vista but with customized themes, etc, I think it looks good. Heck, everyone at work asks "Hey is that Vista?" when they see my desktop. :D
