    Hey guys,

I have a weird issue on my 5793 windows xp: when I go to sleep mode, screen goes black as intended. But then I cannot wake it up, even pressing the power button won't change anything, the screen still stays black.

I don't think it's completely frozen because I can see the "Caps Lock" or "Scroll Lock" light up when I press the corresponding button, but except for that, I don't know how to debug this issue.

I have all my drivers installed (no yellow ! in device manager), I updated my graphic driver to the latest one from nvidia (179.28), and have no external device connected to my laptop...

Is there any log I could check to see what's causing the issue?

    Thanks!
    Kuo

It is more than likely a tray/bk application or your nvid driver. I have had similar variations of your issue when messing with graphics drivers. Boot into safe mode and try a different driver/modded set, etc. Good luck.

i would recc safe mode unistall any video drivers you have. then start up windows and let it install the standard vga driver see if you have the same issue. if not proceed to reinstall the video driver and then check again ... one step at a time

I´ve never had these problems on my 8700M GT... I think that the key is to never use modded .infs, just the official ones with the PCI IDs added.

Don't get me wrong, modded .infs are great for custom configurations and optimizations, but sometimes they add/miss keys that bring more problems and instability than they should.

I recomend that you remove all the possible traces of nVidia's keys in the registry, by manual search and remover utilities such DriverCleaner.NET and Guru3D's DriverSweeper. Only then you should try to install the official ones... of course with no waranties that will work, as you know there are some keys that removers can't find/delete, keys that maybe are the cause of your problem...

    ;)

You could always check your event logs.

    Hey Audigy,

Thanks for the reply. I only used the drivers from the sager cd and nvidia.com as my drivers' source... never used any custom ones
Not sure if it's linked, but I got 2 crashes from my computer when I was playing w3, and when I was watching an anime on media player classic. Didn't have time to read the error (blue screen with lots of hex numbers) because it restarted right away... which makes me think the video driver might be the right track... but the drivers I have are nvidia official so...

    I don't know!

Check your Problems and Solutions center by searching in the Start menu area of MS Vista. I had issues with my OEM drivers and upgraded to another set, then went LV2G. I agree, the modified infs do cause issues, but get better performance at times. After tweaking for the last 12 months, I have gone back to certified, non moded, drivers to just make life easier with external connections, errors and such. I do not play GTA IV, so I do not see much of a point to upgrade to some super performance driver, as I have done in the past, to sacrifice so many other features and gain a plethora of errors. The difference between good set of certified drivers and a modded set in most functions will yield a 5-10% increase...not enough for me to go back. 2 cents..

Ok... I uninstalled all nvidia drivers, cleared manually the registry with any nvidia values, then restarted in safe mode and used DriverSweeper to remove everything nvidia.

Then I downloaded 179.28 from nvidia.com, installed it.... still can't wake up from sleep mode...

Could it be my hard drive? My xp was installed in "sata compatible mode", but as you can see in pics below, "sata enhanced" only gets activated when I activate Intel Robson (which I don't have)

Thanks for any help! This is getting frustrating as I can't play games knowing that it won't crash on me...
