I just noticed that on 1 part of my 5793 LCD, if its a greyish background and I move the system a bit or move the lid back and forth there is a rippling effect at 1 specific part of the screen (similar to when you press your finger across an LCD screen). You guys think I should send it for repair to Xotic? I am going to need the system back for sure by May 3rd when I go back to school, do you think it will work out?

If you're closing the lid with one hand and placing your hand along one hinge, then the screen may just be bending. This is normal. In fact, many laptop screens are reinforced only with plastic, if anything at all.

Well its happening even when Im typing on my system a bit fast and the system is moving around a bit from the typing, you can see it waving around and its only at this 1 specific part of the screen (upper left quadrant). Also when the background is white or black is harder if not impossible to see the ripples but if I have some greyish or coloured image on the area you can see the rippling clearly.

Also I noticed that if I press the back of my lcd gently on the side its happening on (upper left quadrant) the rippling will happen more extensively but if I press the back of the lcd lid on the right side no rippling happens at all. Could there be some padding weakness on that side of the screen?

Sounds like it might be a problem with the ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the motherboard.

If the lid moves around from your typing and the screen is not enforced with anything, then your movement may be causing the screen to flex; its the only way for such distortion to occur. Perhaps you can send it in for repair under the pretext that the lid hinges are loose.

Well they will take it in for repair for sure. It is under warranty. Problem is my warranty runs out in June and I need the system back May 3rd when I go back to school out of country. Even if I send it to them tomorrow thats not a whole lot of time for them to fix it and get it back to me. I probably won't get it back in time.

Have you checked carefully around the hinges to check for loose screws or other other bits, or possibly cracks in the housing?

GENTLY press along the back of the lid and see if it causes the effect you are seeing. if so its just from the lid as a whole and not the ribbon cable. on a lot of notebooks like the msi 620 and 720 this is usually normal its from the lid and pressure against the lcd panel somewhere

Zfactor: Yes if I push the back of the lid it does do the ripple effect but only on the effected side/area, if I push the back of the right side of the lcd it doesn't do it.

Shyster1: I'll try to look for cracks and loose screws. Can loose screws on the very bottom of my system (the panel that covers the fans and main hardware) cause or lead to any issues with the monitor?

its prob the lid as a whole. ive seen this many times and i handle a LOT of lcd panels.. tbh i really dont think its the cable but its worth a shot to check

I'm gonna defer to Zfactor now that he's on the case; he is the Deity of Screens, as far as I can tell. :D

LCD ripples are caused by pressure. The lid must be applying uneven pressure to the panel.

Ok I tightened the hinge screws but that just made the monitor lid tighter when opening and closing. I looked for cracks but can't find a thing. Zfactor is there anything I can do to try and make the lid not touch the screen if it ever wobbles around?
