So quick question, and I apologize if this was answered easily in a previous post - I can't find specifics about fans for 579x except for when the new firmware came out for 5793 earlier this year.
1)I am currently using CPUID to monitor hardware temps. I would like to see the rpm's of the fans in my Sager 5796 notebook - any easy way to do this? Can't seem to find the right program.
2)My 9800M GTX is getting up to 78C at constant use. Is this too high? Can I trust CPUID?
3)I assume Fn*3 is the normal setting for the notebook for fans (moderate and increasing to top speed when necessary), as opposed to Fn*1 where the fans go all out. When would I force it into Fn*1? If the ambient room temperature is really hot? What is the use of it?
Thanks folks for any help!

You can make sure you have the lastest BIOS update to enable the fan toggles:
Fn+1 (max speed... for gaming)
Fn+3 (medium speed .... for basic use so fans wont ramp up)
Most people that want to monitor their vidoecards use:
- RivaTuner (only program that can monitor the GPU temps in-game)
- HWmonitor (basic app that monitor all components with a thermal sensor) -
Thanks for the quick reply.
On my computer Fn+2 turns on/off SRS sound I believe... Fn+3 I assumed was the medium/auto fan speed. What is auto fan if Fn+3 is to keep at medium?
I do have RivaTuner setup, but I was confused because it didn't give me the option to mess around with Fan speeds - I did some research and I think this is because it's not allowed to affect notebook card fans? Not sure about that one.
Usually I leave on HWmonitor while game playing and check out the max temp for the GPU afterwards - is alt-tabbing to RivaTuner during game play a better method?
Thanks all again. -
sorry, no program controls the fans in the notebook... you only have the fan toggles to use.
In general, no software available will control fans for ANY notebook on the market.
- there are less than 1% of exceptions with Dell notebooks.
- Clevo implemented the Fan Toggle as a hardware solution rather than relying on software. -
).
so I will try remove the heatsink and apply new thermal paste and i will see if the temps go down.
greetings
(sorry my english) -
I have a Clevo M730T with a P8600.
I followed the undervolting tutorial and it worked great. I don't play games or use any CPU intensive apps, I use it mainly for programming and Internet/Office work. So it stays idle pretty much all the time, CPU temps range from 30ºC to 40ºC.
The problem is the fan noise... The fan is ON almost all of the time, even if the CPU is cool. It's not a very loud noise, and I can make it much louder if I load the CPU at 100%. But I work in almost absolute silence and it is loud enough to bother me. I had a HP AMD based dv6000 that ran much hotter, and still it would just start the fan from time to time and not nearly as loud as the Clevo.
So, my question is: Is there any way of controlling the fan speed? I'm not asking for a fancy program with buttons and dials to change the rpms in realtime. I would just like to be able to set a certain rpm "X" for a certain temperature range "Y to Z". I had a program that did just this for the HP and it was perfect.
My (relevant) specs:
- Clevo M730T
- Lastest BIOS: 1.01.17
- Latest EC Firmware: 1.00.07
- Artic Silver 5 on CPU and NB.
- Undervolting: 6x266 = 1600Mhz @ 0,9V
- Fan: A-Power BS5505H2B [email protected]
- Used RM_Clock 2.35 / SpeedFan 4.35 / HWMonitor / Everest... All report great temps in 30/40 ºC range... but still no fan control
I've googled extensively for some answer and found nothing. I'm really just posting this here, since there is a very knowledgeable user base in NBR and there coud be a slim possibility that some of you have already had this problem and in some way fiddled with the BIOS/Firmware or could point me in the right direction to do so.
Thanks in advance -
I have the 9800gtx it sits about 68degress in Crysis warhead and hits 70 with Fall out 3, but i am using the zalman cooler since its on my lap most of hte time..
For 5796 you hit the A hot key thats to the left of hte power key, this will run silent mode, so the fans will only spin up when they need to, like in gaming, otherwise they will be silentish...
I agree this notebook is loud, the zalman cooler helps to keep the fans quiet as it keeps the temps down and is very quiet..pretty much the fans cool the metal directly below the laptop vents..
