I know it's probably a bit too premature to ask this, but does anyone know if there is any indication that the 5796 will have a quieter cooling solution than previous generations? I would think that the new model would give them an opportunity to address this common complaint.

it really would be an inteligent thing to do, i mean its not like they have multiple hard drives or 2 graphics cards like many other 17inch laptops. it doesnt need as much cooling.

I believe that the Sager resellers stated that this model will have the same chassis as the NP5793 with the exception of added HDMI and eSATA ports.

Though I don't know if fans are considered part of the chassis, I wouldn't expect a reduction in noise. Still, I am hoping that it will be quieter than its predecessor.

When I had a chance to hear the fans, it was the whine of what I think is the GPU fan (the smaller of the two) that was the most annoying. If it was simply the sound of moving air, it would be much better I would think.

The Montevina platform is supposed to use less power, which should mean less heat, but the GPU is independant of this.

For me having heard the fans, it's the noise level that keeps me from buying an otherwise good machine. I know you can fn+3 the fans into quiet mode but I don't use headphones when gaming, that fan system is a bit distracting IMHO.

im not triing to be funny.... but maybe you should start. the experience really is much better.

the m860tu uses less power andalso has a better streamline vent intake by using one large fan.

In my opinion, that pic was not genuine at all. I'm not holding my breath on 1 fan. :D

Been through the discussion. Tje TU=Ru+e-sata and HDMI.
I wouldn`t believe those pics either. And that means it has the same RU fans, which are indeed a bit noisier than the others.
But you know what? they do the job, My Sager is MUCH cooler than my XPS, sadly.

According to the manual their is a low sound performance button, so hopefully that is actually really quiet and not placed their so that it is moderate from super high sounds.

@rixhobbies - Just a clarification, the smaller fan in the 570RU is the cpu fan... The beast of a gfx card needs a bigger one :)

has there been any laptop that has tried to use a terbine fan for cooling? i wonder how that would work (tiny rotating blades that are on a belt to dissapate the heat all over the system and then expell it.)

I thought a feature of the 57 series was the loud fans. That way, people knew you were coming into a room with it. Much like the Alienware head. LOL.

Nah, I really hope with the changes they revised the activity and noise of that fan. I'd be sorry for the buyers if they didn't.

I've never been bothered by the fan noise on my 5793...perhaps that's just because I'm used to a noisy desktop...but honestly, i'd much rather have a noisy laptop than an overheating/downclocking GPU....especially when you consider this news from NVidia. Sager users haven't been reporting any such failures in great numbers..any wonder why?

Heat also depends from the kind of video card you're buying... 8700 or 8800

When I listened to a 5793, one of the fans had a whine to it. It was that whine more than anything that seemed to be too loud. I assumed it was the smaller of the two fans since smaller fans tend to be noisy like that, but I may be wrong there.

As for headphones, I have a very expensive Bose pair that sound amazing as well as a great set of ear buds. I've tried both but I just don't like wearing them. Personal preference I suppose. That and I don't turn up the volume high anyway.

I wonder if any of the resellers have had a chance to get any info on this or even perhaps listened to a prototype 5796 or something.

What also puzzles me is that if fn+3 is a quiet mode for cooling the laptop when browsing, word processing, etc, why does auto need to spin the fans so much higher even when sitting idle at the desktop? The one thing I didn't check when I had the chance was to see if the power mode was on "performance" or "balanced". Perhaps on "balanced" the fans are quieter for browsing, etc. Anyone know?

hey, who knows, only a week or so before the official launch, so they've got to have some decent info by now. And they seem to be looser in the lip then others who's got the info.

They are looser because they don't care about the NDA. If you look at the big players Sager and Eurocom they don't talk release information like PCMW does.

Huh? Eurocom does it all the time. Then its always a game to see what REALLY comes out in new Clevo models, and when they can REALLY ship.
