Just got the Sager 5796 from PCTorque, I installed Vista Ult x64 and most of the drives. So far I'm loving it except a couple things:

    1. The palm rest area on the right side of the touchpad runs pretty hot, feels a lot hotter than the left side. So I took the temperature of the 2 surfaces, got 92.5F for the left side and 100.5F (!!!) for the right side. This is very uncomfortable for the right wrist during long typing session. Even after a few mins of turning the fan on full (fn + 1).

So I run up CPUID's hardware monitor to check the components' temps. And got:

    ACPI: 42C 107F
    CPU: 30C 84F
    GPU: 47C 116F
    HDD: 50C 122F (!!!)

The drive is a Hitachi HTS723232L9A360, I've no idea if it's the problem. I couldn't find anyone else reporting this issue so is my sager somehow defective? Should I return it?

    2. Both the Finger printer reader programs from the driver cd and newer version downloaded from sager's driver website freezes up the comp during installation, when it's 'updating the system'.

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz "Montevina" (T9400)
    4096MB (4GB) DDR3 1066MHz
    [No Intel Turbo Memory]
NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTX with 1024MB
    320GB l 7200RPM I SATA II (16MB Cache Buffer)
    8X DVD±R / RW / 4X + Dual Layer Drive

    TIA.

What is the temp in your room? That can affect things quite a bit. However, your HD is well within normal range, as is everything else.

I do agree that a hot HD can be annoying, though. Having a notebook cooler keeps it about 10F less, which helps a lot.

    whats your problem?

Those temps are perfectly ideal for a notebook.

hey thug21, thanks for the reply.

Does the surface where your palms rests when typing feels really hot as well? That's my main issue, if the right hand side feels as cool as the left, this laptop would get about a perfect score from me.

Gophn my problem is that the surface gets pretty hot while typing.

    Np.

It gets hot (56 C) when I run a game like Crysis or do an AV scan - I'm speaking of without a cooler.

Normally, mine is 48-49 C (42-44 with a cooler). I do find it a bit warm without the cooler although not uncomfortable. I'm curious, though, how long of period are you typing on it?

thats because the hdd is positioned under right hand side(speculation)
it is normal, if it annoys that much get an ssd drive, they should run much cooler.

Thug21, I chat for hrs on end sometimes so the hot surface on the right does bother me. Though it's absolutely no problem when I'm gaming because the surface on the left is barely warm.

royk50, hmm that's a good idea, I'll prolly get a ssd in this when they become cheaper. You know what temperature ssds usually run at?
