ok now that i have settled on Sager my next issue is which one should I get and what options?

Assume I will get fastest processor available for either model plus largest amount of Memory.

I still dont know which graphics card config to get but obviously want fastest and most powerful so would love advise as to if I should order with the new 9800 coming in august in the 1mb version or just go with the sli config of the 8800

Size doesn't matter to me as I am really buying as a desktop replacement for gaming......

Will the new 5796 be as fast or close to as fast as the 9262? Will the 9262 be refreshed with a new model on the new montevina platform soon and should i wait?

Is the 5796 Montevina 3.06 close to as fast as the quad 2.83 or the 9262?

Any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance. I have relied heavily on this board for my decision to purchase a Sager!

If you get a 9262 with a desktop quad and sli 9800 GTX it will blow the 5796 out of the water.

Is the 5796 Montevina 3.06 close to as fast as the quad 2.83 or the 9262?
No, Quad core is way stronger than Mobile Processor. Dont get it, get Q9450. there is no difference in game peformance beside video rendering. Since your main task is gaming, get 3.0Ghz Core 2 duo. Dont forget, quad core is more future proof.

Will the 9262 be refreshed with a new model on the new montevina platform soon and should i wait?
Since 9262 used desktop chipset, I dont think Clevo will put it on 9262.
"buy when you need", there is always new tech around the corner and there is no information on the refresh of Sager Np9262.

I still dont know which graphics card config to get but obviously want fastest and most powerful
Id you can wait, get the 9800m GTX in SLI (from desktop experience, GTX card is 25% faster than GT version. If not, just get a single 9800m GTX now and upgrade another card in the future. I think it's easy.

Conclusion: I suggest you to go for Sager Np9262. Dont forget to post pic & review when you receive it.

The NP9262 is incredibly powerful, but that power comes at the cost of little to no mobility compared to the NP5796. However, a Q9550 in the NP9262 will destroy the X9100 in the NP5796 hands down.

Then you should get the NP9262, no questions asked, unless you have severe space issues, or really will be carrying it around in the street more than once a month.

You WILL get the most fastest and powerfull notebook with the 9262, that is if you dont care about weight/size, i love mine dearly, and its a great "portable desktop"

go with the 9262 if you dont care about weight or size, you wont regret it

PS: i carry it to my friends place in a targus backpack (20 min subway ride), and on a 24 hour trip to australia in a roller bag, with no problems...its honestly the best thing thats ever happened to me...
(compared to my grandparents 7 yr old computer i woulda had to deal with)

I am trying to decide between the two also. My problems is I live in Texas and travel to Wyoming to work. Usually that is only two flights with about a four hour layover in Denver. I carry about 60-70lbs of gear in a backpack right now (including laptop) because I am gone 16 days at a time. I am worried that 12lbs maybe to heavy to lug around. I really love the longevity that the 9262 would provide me, but I see a lot of people saying that it is not portable. The 5796 is the same dimensions as the 9262, but weights 4lbs. less and will not provide the same future proofing that the 9262 will. I guess its just a tradeoff and I need to decide whats more important to me. It's a hard decision since they both bring great things to the table.

There's only 4 lbs difference between the 2. If you'd rather the 9262...... would the extra 4 lbs really make a difference??

I only say it is not portable because traditional laptops can be used nearly anywhere, and on any surface. The NP9262 cannot be used on your lap when doing intensive tasks, whereas a normal laptop could. Its weight is justified by what is packed inside. If you need a solid machine with a ton of power, the NP9262 is the way to go.

ok just got to work and reading through the responses. Thanks everyone for the quick replies. If I move it at all it would only be on weekends from nyc to my summer place so moving it is not an issues for me.
it seems like the 9262 is the way to go. while I know nothing is fututre proof and there is always something around the corner when did this beast come out? I have also read a lot about the hard drive 5400 vs 7200 anyone have any other thoughts about that?

Thanks again you have all been great! I think I am going to make the purchase by end of day

Do you need the expansion that the 9262 provides? More HDD bays and wider CPU selection? That's really the reason it weighs so much more along with the fact it has desktop hardware. It's a desktop in a notebook shell that sums it up, the power brick also agrees lol.

If all you care about is gaming, get a SSD...I don't see the point in going for the 9262 now and not getting an SSD or at least multiple hdd's (Get 320GB/7200RPM)

agreed. was going to go with 2 7200 320's. the solid state drives seem so expensive. would it make any sense to go with 1 ss and 2 320's? or will 2 320's in raid with external backup work?

The Western Digital Scorpio 320GB 5400RPM drives perform nearly equally to typical 7200RPM drives, and are less expensive.

However, now that you are sold on the NP9262, let me be the first to say: welcome to the family!

There isn't one unless its some extreme one, but those aren't worth the money unless you overclock like mad... and you probably can't in a laptop. You should, however, wait alittle as there is going to be a discount soon if money is more important then time.

Intel just dropped prices on the E8500 and Q6600 (the two CPUs with price drops that are relevant to the 9262); how long it takes for that to show up in the pipeline - beats me.

I wonder how soon the prices will reflect on xoticpc for the E8500 on the 9262.

ok so back to the graphics cards....right now the only config offered is either the 8800 in sli or single or the 9800 single if i wait till early aug which is fine with me but question i have is if it is worht the wait? so far there is no info on the 9800 in sli so i guess question is if the singe 9800 is better then the dual sli 8800. can i upgrade the 8800 to 9800 sli at a later date?

I'm getting the 9800 GT SLI. Why? Because yes, sure, I could wait for the GTX SLI, and by that time, some new damn card would be on the horizon, that's how it works.

So the 9262 is not portable in that it gets to hot to have it in your lap? Would a cooler remedy that problem? What I love about laptops is being able to sit on the couch or in my chair in my office and kick back. I don't want to be tied to a table or desk everytime I start up my laptop.

NO heat isnt the issue, its the size and the weight that make it uncomfortable

yeah you get numb legs after awhile .. its like a dumbbell sitting on your laps :) heat shouldn't be a problem.. this monster has 4 fans.. but i figure it won't be sitting on your lap for long.. cos batt's an issue too.. it needs the brick to survive.. biggest lappy psu i've EVER seen.. :)

You're not going to be able to do this for long, it's not even about how big or strong you are which people keep bringing up.....It's heat, fans on the bottom, very large power brick, and it weighs 12lbs.

So it doesn't exactly make a whole lot of sense to buy it expecting you'll be able to do that for any long length of time. The 9262 is a desktop replacement while the 5796 is still a notebook...5796 still isn't tiny by any means though.
