Just a quick observation and question...

I've been wavering back and forth between a customized MSI 15" Notebook, and a Customized 15" Sager. In all of my builds, I've leaned towards a 6990M on the Sager, but recently, I've became more intrigued by the 580M for some reason.

Now, when I configure an MSI w/ a 580M, the 580M upgrade is $399. However, when I configure a Sager/Clevo based notebook, the 580M is $475 for upgrade. What gives?

That price difference almost completely negates the Sager $100 off $1500 promotion, which stinks.

Thoughts on why this is the case?

It's not always best to compare just individual component price upgrades. Configure each computer with all your desired hardware then look at the final price.

For example one computer might cost less to upgrade to the 580M but might cost alot more to upgrade the RAM.

    Final price is whats important.

Definitely understand. What I'm looking at is very comparable otherwise, but the Sager w/ 580M comes out to quite a bit more than the MSI w/ 580M. I've configured several w/ similar specs, which is what brought this up. I think if the Sager had a 580M upgrade for $399 instead of $475, still w/ $100 rebate for over $1500, then I'd probably opt for the Sager... But it's more expensive by far.

Possibly Sager/Clevo is a "better" brand and you're paying a premium? I don't know, but it just struck me as odd while configuring between the two.

Cooling-wise, the NP8130 and NP8150 have dual fan solutions, with one each for the GPU and CPU. The MSI only has one shared fan.

Beyond that, I think that the *general* consensus is that:
--Sager/Clevo has better overall build quality.
--Both have average keyboards on their 15" models.
    --MSI has better speakers.

you do not want to buy anything less than 2 fans! its really bad. Also if you are looking at 580M, go to alienware, they cost the same as 6990M! :) It still will be slightly more expensive than clevo/ msi, but I think its worth it!

Isn't the Alienware/Dell 580M lower clock speeds, but better memory?

Also, like Pride said, the looks of the Alienware isn't what I'm looking for. I may end up sticking w/ a 6990M build, and grabbing a better SSD HD, spend that money elsewhere.

Do realize that you'll want to configure the P150HM with a optical caddy instead of a DVD drive if you want to run a SSD + HDD set-up. These things only have one hard drive bay, unlike the MSI machines. It's not a big deal though, as you don't really need a DVD drive for anything these days.

There should be price drops across the board on all this last gen tech soon.
