Ok, so I have been looking at buying a clevo, either in Japan or from the states, and it seems like the 580m has all but disappeared.
Here in Japan, it seemed like they had some nice discounts to clear remaining stock, which seemed to work well, because I can't find any 17" models with a nice gaming card (they don't offer the 6990m in the Japanese models for some reason).
Also, I noticed a couple resellers now are not offering the 580m as an option.
Here's hoping that they release the new clevo's soon, so I can actually buy a laptop before June.
-
You're right, the 580m has disappeared from XoticPC's P170HM and P150HM, which I know had the option...
Malibal still has 580m options for these models.
Anyone from XoticPC care to explain? -

It's been killed off by Sager
many casualties this last week.
We mourn the death of the NP5160, NP5165, NP5175, and today the GTX 580M (on NP8150/8170)
As with the other items, once Sager drops the option all Sager resellers do as well.
p.s its still available on the NP9270 -
I wonder how long we have to wait for the replacement...
It wouldn't be a big deal if I could get the 6990m here, but I can't.
I have a feeling that the new nvidia cards, which seem like they will be a rebrand, will be released soon; hopefully, at the same price point, which is not likely to happen here. -
That might be the reason.... if they are 40nm rebrands, there's really no reason they should be delayed, so you -might- be seeing them March after Cebit
..
-
They are really busy rebranding them as 675Ms.
-
I don't care if the price is the same... if not, I may just bite the bullet and go with an Alienware...
-
-
Still available on RJTech.. as of writing..
-
-
This close to CeBIT, just hold out for the 7970M.
-
If 7970m and Ivy Bridge are out this month for Clevo I'll be so excited
edit: ohh and Clevo IB ultrabook
edit: not this month, i meant March -

I'm still hoping the leak was a fake, even though I'm positive it wasn't.

Alienware dropped a single 580M as well, but you can still order SLI. Go figure.
-
CeBIT can't wait !
-
Oh Yeahhhh
-
Confirmed by Sager. No more 580Ms.
Alienware is still offering 580Ms in SLI, but adding 2 weeks to delivery time. -
gtx670m bga available now.....but no cards
see the die size? the smds? 99% still 40nm
nvidia is renaming, so amd hd7900 may not good at all(nvidia must have spies in amd for sure) -
Heres a stupid question:
Is it possible to determine wether it is 40nm or 28nm based on that picture? -
-
What you mean? 55nm? I don`t understand

Right now the new ATI 7000 family (for desktop) is not as powerful as we thought.
From what I seen the 7970 Series (desktop) is only 10%~15% more powerful than the current GTX580 (desk), pretty much everyone can overclock their 580M card 10% and still be under 80C with no artifacts, BUT the 7970 (desk) happens to be CHEAPER than the 6990 (desk) but also has around 15% less performance.
I might be wrong and when ATI comes out with the mobile VCards it will be amazing... idk, at any rates ATI always have better prices for the same performance or better performance for the same price.
Maybe if a Mobile HD 7990 comes out at the same price tag of the current GTX580M everyone will get that instead of the Nvidia. So perhaps this is the real reason why Nvidia seems to have halted the production of the GTX 500M family? maybe both?
Right now, I can overclock my GTX580M 25%+ and still be under 90C with no artifacts on 0.92V. So, unless ATI comes out with 30% more performance at the same price tag I won't have to change my machine =p
o.o I will wait and see. -

Scroll to 7000m listings, could this be real or too good to be true, there are no sources.
Also it is unfair to compare the 7970 to the 6990 desk, as 6990 is a dual GPU card, it is over 20% performance of the 6970, and 10-15% the 580gtx to be fair and consumes over 25% less power. I'm not engineer, but the drivers may not be optimized for the 7970 either. -
Well call me shocked if it is still 40nm. I had atleast hoped for a die shrink. 675M is in fact 100% identical with 580M then. I`m going to laugh my *** off if AMD comes with rebadges too at CeBit.
mubay: Yeah, 7970 is in average 15% faster than 580 -
What the editor or writer thinks, is that the 7970M will be identical to 7870. Well a mixture of 7890 and 7870.
The first author said the 7970M was a 7890, but it was edited 5 hours later by someone else. As for sources, there are none. The author doesn`t know either. He guesses. His IP are from University in Canberra in Australia. I can give you his IP adress if you want to track him down and ask him for sources
AMD Radeon HD 7890, HD 7870 and HD 7850 Specifications Leaked < VideoCardz.com > -
If the 7970M ends up being a downclocked 78xx to the point where it's actually meeting the 65w TDP specs, then it will be faster than the GTX 675M, but not like what we saw with the jumps we saw with the GTX 485Ms and the 6970Ms... -
The Wikipedia entry is just random shots taken into the dark. Yes we know 7900M is coming from the 7800 line, but the 7970M will not have the 7890's stat line. Easy to tell because the 7890 is not out for months, while the 7870 and 7850 are already in mass production.
I see little reason to not believe that the power consumption will be between 80 and 100 Watts, and there's no way the cards written on Wiki actually operate at those ridiculously low TDPs. They'd have to downclock them worse than the GTX 480M to get that core configuration to 65W. But then what would be the point? -
-
But AMD could cheap out and use the 7850 instead for the 7970M.
Assuming the 7970M is the 7870, it would be nice to see a 256-bit 7890 based 7990M in Q3. But realistically, with Nvidia not even delivering mobile Kepler, AMD may sit pat until the 8000M series is ready. -
