I'm playing dragon Age, watching netflix and have Pandora on and I check HWmonitor and it reach 97C? Should I be worry? It past 90C and I thought the 580m have good temperature?
-
Yes, repaste the thermal paste.
The temperature should stay below 90c even while running furmark. -
Hmm, that is abnormally high. What is your ambient room temperature? Have you checked to see if any dust has accumulated? That may be the case if you had the laptop for some time and you weren't having this problem in the past.
-
Outside the temperature is 58 degree so it pretty cold outside. I just got this laptop on the 2nd of this month so it new. I'm playing on my bed so don't know if the bed sheet is making it hotter than a wood surface? Also it hit 97C on the GPU temperature but I was playing without Fn+1.
I like to say that when I turn off the game the temperature reach 50c and now it at 42c. -
That's weird the game causes it to go up that much. I assume you have it on your bed when it reaches 97c, then to a flat surface when it's cooled? I wouldn't think gaming would cause an increase in temperatures like that, whether it be on a bed or at a desk. It's possible the fans are getting covered when you have it on the bed, which would cause the high temperatures.

That temp is not acceptable. If your fans are blowing clean then you can try a re-paste or contact your reseller for your options.

If you are going to sit it on your bed, you should at least put a laptop cooler (or anything hard and flat really) underneath to make sure none of your fans are being blocked.

My guess is that you're blocking the fan inlet by placing the laptop on your bed. It's kinda like laying face down into your pillow and trying to breathe. You can do it, but not well. Get a lap desk or just be more careful about making sure the fan inlet is clear if you're going to game on soft surfaces.
EDIT - ninja'd. -
This.
Your fans need constant air flow to cool adequately. Your temps are way too high. -
bedsheet blocking the air intake vents problem.
-
If you are going to use your laptop on a bed, I suggest placing the laptop on something flat like a cooling pad or one of these.

As everyone has mentioned, it is likely that your bed would be causing the airflow problem. I use one of these myself as a lapdesk (got it at my local Barnes & Noble - they still have book stores!) and it works well.

I was hoping the OP would chime in again. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, I would hope he did not have the machine directly on bed sheets... gaming..

My Eurocom Racer will overheat the GPU gaming with the laptop on a desk without the rear elevated. With the rear raised 1 inch it makes a huge difference. These machines need air circulation to properly cool the high performance chips and memory modules.

You guys are correct, I check the bottom of the laptop and the sheet did indeed block the air out and it was the hottest there. I was really worry about the temperature but now I know the reason for it. I didn't realize the airflow was on the bottom, I thought it was only on the back side of the notebook.
Thanks for the help, I will buy a desk bed for my bed. -
