I don't like windows 7 so I'm going back to XP just to see how I like it. Does anyone know if the current 10.6 catalyst drivers work fine for the 5870m. I think that's the only real issue I'll run into.

If your playing current games or use the laptop for current audio / video / graphic editing software it makes absolutely no sense to go back to XP with that kind of hardware, because XP will not be able to use it efficiently. If your not using it in such a way than I don't know why you bought such a strong system in the first place :)

If you download the Asus G73 drivers from the Asus website it gives you the Cat 9.12 drivers for XP.

The only way to try to get Cat 10.6 for XP is to download the desktop version and mod them for your card.

I have tried Catalyst 10.6a for XP on the same laptop, and there is alot of bugs in the driver for XP. It was never really designed with XP in mind, so I wasn't surprised. In short it runs very poorly in XP, although I only was able to get those drivers to install, even though I tried several catalyst drivers.

Its of course your personal decision, but keep in mind that Windows 7 basically is an improved version of Vista. I'm sure people in Windows 7 forums can help you with whatever problems you had. Windows 7 and Vista are practically identical in terms of programming, just that Windows 7 is something like Vista SP 3. Any problem you encountered under Windows 7 that is not related to the interface or some other gimmick (which are all things you can adapt to your liking) you will encounter under Vista as well...

I couldn't connect to flashpoint multiplayer servers for some reason even with all my firewalls disabled. Now with vista 64 I can connect fine.
