I almost bought a Sager 5760 but I'm still waiting for a 64 bit processor if at all possible. Has anyone heard of when we can expect Sagers with the AMD Turion 64 X2? Failing that, does anyone know of a reseller that will sell a 5760 now and install a Merom when they come out while keeping the warranty valid?
I'm getting close to when I wanted to buy my gaming machine (late June). I've looked at the other machines, the Dell M1710 and 2010 but I really want Dual Core 64 Bit and I really want a Sager.....well, I really want a Falcon Northwest, but let's be at least a little realistic.
I am willing to wait until August at the latest but don't want to wait until 07. Any ideas on timetables?

We havent received any timetables for when the Turion X2's will be available for Sagers. When the Merom's become available you can expect that Sager will integrating those chips into their machines immediately. We have been told July-August is when Meroms will be available. We dont know if a bios update will be needed or just a simply swap of CPU's.
Hope this helps. -
August isn't too bad to wait for a Merom. I had thought I'd heard Nov or Dec on those but I could easily be misrembering. Thanks for the info!

Sager 9750 (rebadged Clevo D900K) is AMD64 based with Socket 939. It can handle dual core Athlon X2 and dual core Opterons.
It is pricey compared to the other notebook models though, because of the dual harddrive support and dual optical drive support.

Sager has already successfully tested the Merom processor in the NP5760 and NP5750 and they work just fine without a BIOS update.
The processor is pretty easy to install if you are licensed to operate a screwdriver, and swapping the Yonah for the Merom will not void your warranty. As with any Sager you can upgrade your HDD, memory or processor without voiding your warranty, but if you break anything while doing it whatever you break will not be covered by warranty.
You can also send it back to Sager (make arrangements through your reseller) and they will do it for you for a reasonable labor charge (about $80) if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.
According to Intel, as of today the current ETA on the Merom actually reaching us is late August to Early September. Now, judging from Intel's past performance I would not hold my breath. They may "release" it by then, but we may not see it on the shelf until several weeks later than that...and then again...they could surprise us and actually have it to us by early September.
Since the Merom isn't really going to do you much good until Vista has been released and matured (at least Service Pack 1) it might be wiser to wait. Keep in mind that the Merom prices will be high when it first comes out, but about 4 months later they will drop significantly, and then again about 4 months after that. It is good to know that all you will have to do is drop it in there, so I would get your NP5760 now and get some use out of your Yonah processor, and then next spring upgrade to the Merom. -
That is awesome news Paladin
Once Vista is released and at least SP1 for it is out, we can have a choice of swapping from Yonah to Merom on our 5760 or contact our reseller about the upgrade
Thanks for the heads up -
That is good news indeed. Thanks!

This is great news.
My birthday is finally here, the day I wanted to buy my new computer. I'm going to follow your advice and get the 5760 now and upgrade to Merom next year.
Thank you all for all the help you've been to me. This is an awesome site for anyone researching notebooks and I've recommended it to quite a few friends. -
