I'm a soon to be 5793 owner and I am wondering about some of the problems with Vista64.

Has anyone found any 64 bit drivers for any of the external sound cards or can they work with 32 bit drivers under vista64?

    Maybe I should rephrase.

I've read here that several 5793 owners have had their headphone jacks go out and then some said they used an external USB sound card as a good work around so as not to have to send back the laptop for motherboard replacement.

    1) Is this a very common problem - the headphone plug going bad on the 5793 or non issue for most? I always use headphones for gaming.

    2) Has anyone had problems getting a USB sound card to work in Vista64?

I did a cursory search but didn't find much. Any input would be helpful.

    Thanks,

    Joe

    Yes. I have. :D
Creative USB soundblaster Live 24 bit.
Searched on Creative`s site and found them.
The card worked perfectly in Vista x64,but the thing is that the sound manager and system equalizer did not.
Also, I`ve noticed that in XP the volume and clarity are almost twice those in Vista.

    Thanks eleron911 for the reply.

It seems that 64 bit drivers are always a problem for Creative. Even their top cards don't seem to support it - go figure.

So you say that the usb card hardware is supported just not the software? Does that mean that it is usable?

    Thanks again.

    Joe

Yes, it works flawlessly. The only downside, as I said is that you won`t be able to change the settings, like Bass Boost,3d,and some other effects, which are not even needed anyway.

Yes,but it still ports the sound THROUGH THE FAULTY jack .You have to get the specific types with separate jacks which are more expensive.
    So it`s a no go.
A USB sound card from Creative should be like 50$.

NO IT DOESN'T THE X-FI HAS ITS OWN JACKS!!!!

I know this because I own one. It has mic/line in/spdif (optical) in and headphone/speaker/spdif (optical) out and if you get the breakout module you also get the 4 jacks for up to 7.1 analog surround

And it`s double the price of the one I have.
You don`t want to pay 100$ for a broken audio jack. But then again, the express card is smaller.
    And hangs out too :p
    And please don`t capitalise everything!

I was simply counter-capitalising your capitalised bit.

Fair enough yours is cheaper, but I like the fact that mine's expresscard as it takes up less space and I'm running out of usb ports.

And the software works for mine.

I would`ve gotten the express card myself had it been cheaper, and the one I found had no jacks at that time.
