Hi,
I was wondering if/how a 680M works in a P150HM under Linux. I know that you need to change the .inf file in Windows drivers to make it work, but I did not find anything of the sort in the Linux driver package. Did anyone actually try to pull this off? I would be quite unhappy if I finally decided to pull the trigger on the upgrade only to learn I need to leave Linux behind.

What Distro are you using? You don't need to manually compile it...
-
I'm on Fedora. The thing is that if the hardware ID requires patching and there is no text file to edit, there might be no way to enable the driver for the card.

Code:lspci |grep -i VGA

I should make it clear that I have not aquired 680M yet, I am just considering it. At this point, the command shows

Well, chances are you'll be perfectly fine with nothing to modify. Linux =/= Windows... You'll have far less of an issue with Linux & devices vs. Windows & devices. Especially since you're on a premade distribution with the ability to update and not have to manually compile everything. -
Still, the graphics drivers come from nvidia and they share the majority of the codebase with the windows ones. Well, I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet if I decide to upgrade
-
Why do you need to go Nvidia? Why not AMD? There is a very good reason why Linus Torvalds gave Nvidia the finger and used profanity in public this year, oh and the audience cheered..

There's a lot of things Linus doesn't like... A LOT. I'd sure hate to try cooking him dinner.
