    Can the 7970m heatsink be used with the 680m either without or with small modifications on the p150em?

    It's much better to just use the heatsink for the 680. Inter-brand swapping is not a great idea.

    I appreciate the reply, and I assumed as much that it is not an optimal solution, but that was not a answer to my question.

    I used the 6990M(pretty sure the same as 7970M) heatsink for my 680M, no problem at all. There's less stuff that needs to get in contact with the heatsink on the nvidia card so it's easier to install.
