    I'm getting a P150HM, I think it's that model, it's this one: Vision NB2580 15,6'' (med HD6970 2GB grafikkort) hos MM-Vision.dk
    Is the 6990M noisier than the 6970M, if yes, then how much noisier is it?
    How hotter is the 6990M than the 6970M?
    Can someone make a comparison with temps and noise of the 6970M and the 6990M, preferably when doing the same task.
    Thank You :)

    I don't have any benchmarks handy or temp comparisons, but from what I've been seeing on the forums lately they have mainly been in the same temp range. I know there are a few who have had pretty high temps with both cards, but usually a thermal repaste or quick cleaning brings the temps down.

    As far as fan noise goes, I haven't had any customers complain about either, although they can both get equally noisy under stress. They use the same fan (P150HM fan stays the same even though you change GPUs).

    Thank you for the answer :)
    Is it only a couple degrees (like 1-5 degrees Celsius) between them or is it more, when the GPU usage is at 100%?

    Really only a couple of degrees, 1-5C is a good estimate (depending on the system and other variables). However the laptop is definitely more than certified to handle both cards.

    I think I will choose the 6990M instead

    I pondered over that for a while, but I still plan on sticking with the 6990 for my order myself. I know it feels bad from a financial perspective, but I think I will probably regret it in 2-3 years if I don't go for the extra power that may buy me another year of use. Long-term, I think that is worth the money.

    I did the same today. It cost $140 to go with the 6990 as opposed to the free 6970, but if at any point in the next couple years I end up wishing I had more GPU power, that money is easily well-spent. My future frustration is worth avoiding.

    Dude dont do it... Just get the 6970m it's clocked at 680mhz... And the 6990s clocked at 715mhz... Bro trust me those 4fps not gonna make your game any better.. Plus in years to come when the going gets tuff just use your ati catalyst and pump it up to 750-800mhz I have these cards in crossfire and they own man you won't need to overclock at all really.. But iv ran some test and my point is its just not worth it... Point get the freebie for free and call it a day and nap with a sound mind..

    It's done, it's never sound financially to go ahead and spend more money for performance, but I decided I didn't want to someday be looking at a new game that came out, and the card that I felt to be a great deal compared to the 580m - the 6990m - would be enough to play....but I decided to save a day or two in wages and go with less.

    Good decision or not, it's made. Maybe I'll have a few less sheckels in my pockets, but I will end up with a good laptop regardless.

    Overclocking the 6970m to 6990m is an interesting idea to keep from getting the 6990m. $145 saved does seem pretty nice, but with OC comes higher heat, greater power consumption, less battery life, and more importantly, it makes the fan spin faster and noisier.

    Then again, it's all depended on how the user will use it.

    I ordered a Satori yesterday with the free 6970m upgrade. Is the 6990m really that much better?

    According to notebookcheck: (3dmark11)

    6990m = 3238
    6970m = 2821 (-13% compared to 6990m)

    Vantage: around (-14%)
    3dmark06: around (-19%)

    It will perform around 15% better

    Might not seem much, so it is upto you to decide if it is worth the extra 145$

    For me aleast, I think it is worth the extra $$, as I don't think i am going to overclock anytime soon.

    It's approximately 10% faster overall. You'd see a few frames difference in games and slightly higher synthetic benchmarks. The 6970 is roughly equal to the 485m, while the 6990 is roughly equal to the 580m.

    Emphasis on the "roughly equal" part :cool: things tend to vary to often in this world.
