atm 27%, but after a while of gaming its around 32%...
i've just seen that your GPU ist in idle at 100 MHz while mine ist at 250 MHz....
-
-
you can edit Fan speed in RBE.. be careful of editing something, be sure only fan speed will edit!!
-
mhmmm....im a little bit worried about my memory temp.
when gaming its always around 180 to 190 degrees...do you have used the stock silicon pads for covering the VRAM? -
yes..i used stock thermal pads(yr 2009) of gtx 280m HS, it never been replace stock silicon pads.
-
heres the part where you can edit fan speed..
-
FACEPALM FOR ME!!!!!!
I've opened it up again and found the following image on the heatsink:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us[/URL
I've applied a little bit more thermal paste on te die. It really lowerde the Memory Temps instantly 40 degrees.
So for now, i watching my temperatures. Will call back later (in around an hour) witch updated temperatures in idle.... -
i see why you got high temp..
use pea method in application thermal paste. it works better than in any other.
-
Yeah i see it was totally my fault. I hate thermal paste. i never know how much is needed....
For now temps are stable GPU: 58, MEM: 58, Shader: 58
testing crysis 2 again in a few minutes... -
better.. next you have to do is adjust fan speed.. I set mine 30%@45C idle and 100% fan speed when temp reaches at 70C +
-
Kingkong8, did eurocom send you a clevo (green) card or other version? I'm rather annoyed by the mods I have to do to the heatsink and by the lack of a retention bracket on mine. Though the blue looks nice, ah ha..
EDIT; OH, missed a page browsing, so you're using the 280gtx heatsink, I see. -
ok crysis 2 still quits after 30 minutes of gaming.
i think its the temperature of the gpu. it reached 87 degrees when screen went black.
MEM and Shader were stable at 87 degrees.
Now im adjusting the fanspeed. -
-
So i've seen that i need a custom BIOS for the Card to apply the Fan setting.
Can you send me yours with the correct Fan settings KingKong? -
-
-
-
ok.....very strange......just tested crysis 2 again. shutdown occured with GPU Temp at 76 degrees.
Other Temps are ok. -
-
No, I was saying I won't do it. Wire splicing okay, gpu, too far.
I can mount without it, but the inevitable bend in card will shorten its life. -
Mine have 920XM procee + 6970M so need for largerPSU(180W) but if you are using 720qm + 6970m stock 120W should work. -
-
-
@Frickeladmin
Vbios sent!
I suggest better upgrade larger PSU.. I am playing 5 hour (Dirt 3, witcher2, shogun 2, 2k11, crysis 2 etc..) without shutdown issues!! -
hmm...its not a shutdown that accours. Just screen went black sound is still running for 15 seconds, then the sound starts to hang and i have to hard shutdown the notebook.
but sometimes the issue occurs after 5 minutes of crysis and sometimes after 30 to 45 minutes... -
@frickeladmin, you definitely need to upgrade, 120 is very borderline even with the 720qm. In the meantime, you can improve your chances by keeping the power adapter as cool as possible, -
@Mike570U
the blue card one no need for X backplate. Just screw to the heatsink and you're way to go.... -
I'm using the latest mobile Driver from AMD/ATI 11.6
-
try my vbios if it fix black issues in hard gaming.
-
ok.....can you give me some advice with how to apply the new bios?
-
use atiflash, but first you have to make bootable usb stick. google it.
-
heres the link complete guide flashing vbios.

Ok i flashed your bios to my card. I SEE a difference but i cant hear it.
ATM everest says that the Fan ist at 64% speed but it sounds only like 30%.... -
its nice! your fan running quite!! just feel the back vent(exhaust) if there is hot air releasing from vent.. There is nothing wrong with everest. what stated there is real fan speed
-
jeah there is hot air. but i think i cant be normal that the fan is so quite at 64%.
So no changes at all at the tempreatures...still the same temps as with 30% fan speed.
EDIT: and no temperature changes in crysis. Still 78 degrees up to 80 degrees. -
look at hardware info(HWINFO32/64).. test some games like crysis2/witcher2 then watch your temp. when it reaches 70C, fan should be 100% full speed and feel the backvent if hear fan spinning.
EDIT: adjust your fan speed according to your comfortability. i'll set mine which is enough for my system. -
with my original bios, the fan was much louder when everst said that the fan is only at 70%....
when playing crysis, everest says that the fan is at 100% but i cant believe that because its not as loud as with my old bios -
are you sure?, i think my vbios isn't perform well in your card..
-
but i compared it with my original one...it looked fine.
i dont know what else i can do.... -
the least you can do is to adjust fan via OVERDRIVE..
-
i found out earlyer that adjusting the fan settings in CCC dont work. I've set it to 100% and the fan was just ideling at around 30%
-
hmm, i found another strange thing.
The card istn recognized in my BIOS. It says "Unkown Video Card" -
its fine.. same with mine my card recognized "Unkown Video Card"
-
-
i think i can surely say that its a thermal problem. As soon as the card reaches 78 degrees, screen went black
but im a little bit confused....the card was, before i applied more thermal paste, at temperatures far beyond 80 degrees (max was 88 degrees) and i could play perfectly.
only problem is with crysis and unigine as soon as the temperature hits 78 degrees. -
So it seems like the green clevo version works with no modding needed. Nice

I was referring to the 6970m, from reading this thread. No idea if the 6990m will work in the w860cu.
-
As far as getting a card in W860/870, get a clevo part if you can and use the 5870/460M heatsink. For those of us who got a non-Clevo part, the heatsink for the Geforce 285M seems to work well or you can mod your 5870 heatsink. here is how I modified my 5870 heatsink to work:
First, I compared the two cards and found the trouble spots.
Next I shaved down a new recessed portion and expanded the other:
And, for good measure, here is my thermal pad arrangement:
I would argue against MXM-Upgrade's method of simply cutting off the non-conforming areas when only minimal shaving achieves a good fit. -
Edit: Forgot to say thx for the pics...will do the modifications this sunday
6970m into the Clevo W860CU/W870CU or Sager NP8690/NP8760
