    Hi,

Assuming you have used DDU in safe mode and installed latest amd drivers, there should be no issue.
Quick question are you installing Windows 10, 7 or 8.1?

Possibly the card may need to be baked as it could have a cold solder joint. Methodology is located in these forums do a google search for "baking gpu"
Also I would recommend a repaste if you cannot recall last time this was done.

    Good luck... :)

    Hi,
Up to you personal decision but really happy with my p170hm quite the beast check my sig for specs. Your 6990m is an older card and hot card based on 40nm technology. The 7990m and 680m are based on 28nm die technology and run cooler and are much better for recent game titles.

Finding new gpus also is not easy and requires certain models, vbios etc. If this is bothersome then by all means go with a new laptop.

Good luck and let us know how the baking salvage goes :)

Most likely your card is on its last legs like mine. I had the same symptoms as you did, it would only boot into safemode without loading the graphics driver. I ended up baking my GPU and it's been working great since *knock on wood*. I baked it early June so it's been almost 3 months and everything's been working fine, though now-days I'm making sure that my GPU does not reach extreme temperatures (anything above 80C) in order to prevent heating/cooling cycles to mess with the internal solder joints. Even still, I'm on the lookout for a replacement GPU just in case since from what I read, baking a GPU is only a temporary solution.
