GPU on my p150hm wont decrease clock rate and resume idle temperatures, even though its been like 50 minutes since I turned off the game I was playing. I dont have any other graphic intensive stuff going on. is it supposed to be like this? do i simply have to wait until it decides to stop churning or is there a setting i can change?

before it idled at around 44C and right now its 65C, doing nothing (other than NBR surfing)

web browsers can also initiate hardware acceleration (flash based sites).

Hit Ctrl + Shift + Esc to bring up task manager and see what's pulling your cpu cycles.

Best thing to do is install MSI Afterburner and look at your GPU clocks and memory clocks based off of usage. Something is spiking it, some app, some setting, something.

Hmm.... I think I noticed something similar with my 6990M. I remember idles in the 40s, now it idles in 60s, but load temps have stayed the same.

hey i don't mean to bump an old thread, but might have found a solution.

i think its related to the power settings in windows. i have my laptop unplugged and the temp went back down to 45C at .9v. You can check the voltage with hw monitor. when its plugged in the voltage jumps up to 1.0.

It is voltage related. Also if you overclock your gpu then reset it back to stock clocks, the voltage stays stuck at 1.1v. You have to either reset or use ati tray tools to get it back to .9v.

My 6990m also idles at .95v, 250/900 with idle temp of 62C. But this only occurs when I have it running directly off my laptop screen. If I plug it into my HDMI out to my 23" screen, it correctly downclocks to 100/150 at .9v with an idle temp of 49/50C.

I have tried everything, new drivers, fresh install of OS, reflash of bios, and still it will not fix this. No power option changes work either. It is so annoying! Anyone have a fix? Currently using 11.11c.

No fix for me yet... I gave up.

It only goes down to .9v when I unplug my laptop. Even with the same power save settings, it always runs at .95v or more when plugged in. Might be an obscure windows power setting .... but yeah at this point your guess is as good as mine.
