    Hi all,

Well I have also had a 6990m failure, but have been looking for a replacement for a while anyway.
From what i have read i will need a version 1.2 rather than a 1.1 for it to work in my p170hm. Is this correct?
I have found one with a chipset number 216-0836036 does that mean anything to the version it is?
Also can i use one from a dell?, or does it need to be a clevo one? The reason I ask is i know for the 680m they are different and a dell one wouldnt be compatible.

    Any help would be great

    Regards

    Jim

v1.2 7970m is indeed necessary for HM compatibility, whereas the newer v1.1 doesnt work at all. only clevo and msi cards work in clevos, dell wont work. as opposed to that, 680m gpus work in both dell and clevo versions but only with a specific vbios version on the HM series, together with modded drivers.

can u upload a picture of the 7970m in question? or ask the seller of the card where it came from? and what revision it is? if in doubt, upload a picture here and ask meaker, he can tell apart clevo from dell cards ;)

Card sold unfortunately :( he didn't reply I'm time. Somebody said a 8790m should work fine but can't find much info on a successful install of this card.

I don't think a compatible bios was ever issued for the 8970M.

Cheers for the heads up. 7970m or 680m it is. I'm just about to buy a 680m of a guy off here. Buying second hand makes me a little nervous as I worry how long it will last after my 6990m only lasting 14months!!!

I have not heard of many 680M cards giving up the ghost. They are pretty cool running at stock.
