What vbios version are you guys running? I am getting some poor performance in SCII (only game with poor performance). A vbios update fixed someones framerate issues in the alienware forums.
    I'm running 013.011.000.017.040793

Thanks for the reply. My CCC says the same. Maybe I keep the bar a little to high for these 6990's...

Same BIOS here and my frames seem fine - define "poor" performance. Sure, maxed it isn't running about 60 most of the time, but I don't think I've ever had a dip below the mid-30s, and only then very rarely.

But it's all pretty subjective what a good frame rate is - I know I have a higher tolerance than many.

Last night I started messing with the power settings and switched to "Power Saver" and "Energy Star" respectively, then started Team Fortress 2.

I noticed a considerable drop on rates, I usually get about 130 or more. With the new power scheme net_graph was registering 60FPS or less. Alt+tabbing back and forth between windows and the game took longer than usual as well.

I will keep testing this but so far even on power saver the game ran smoothly at 60FPS.

Well the poor performance I see is only in Starcraft 2. Crossfire enabled or disabled gives me the same exact performance. I tried Radeon Pro and still didn't notice a change. I'm running 11.10 drivers with the 11.9 CAP 4. It's just odd that it is only with starcraft.

I dont have any issues with my 6990M. Im gettin about 130FPS on Extreme during 4v4 matches. It drops sometimes to 60-70fps in great battles. Im loving that card, it beats my desktop 5770 CuCore almost two-fold.

My only guess is that the Starcraft II is more CPU limited than GPU. You've got plenty of GPU power, but maybe the lower frequencies on the 2630 are limiting it. It's one of the few games I can think of that pushes the CPU over the GPU anymore.

Yes, it really requires CPU power. My 2760QM is clocked at 3.2Ghz almost constantly while im playing, sometimes even at 3.3 or 3.4Ghz. That game is dual-core optimized, so it always uses 2 cores. Turbo boost is your best friend in SC2, but the 2630QM is rather low on turbo compared to my 2760QM. After all, 600mhz per core can mean the difference in FPS in battles.

I have a 2760qm. I'm pretty sure something else is wrong. I'm reinstalling the game ATM to see if that will fix it.

Hoping it isn't a throttling issue. Before you start your game of SC2 next, try downloading throttlestop, turning it on and off, then running SC2. See if that helps at all.

Reninstalling the game actually fixed the problem. Still don't know what the problem was... but thanks for all the replies.
