I have been reading this several times for now. Can anyone confirm this, and maybe give an explanation? I was originally planning on buying a 5400 rpm so that I dont have to deal with high temperatures, but it seem's I might reconsider...

Well considering what I've seen on the forums, the brand and model matters alot more than if it is 5400rpm. Just get a 7200.4 and you're all set :)

I'd say they run exactly the same or atleast very close. Also depends highly on the make and model.. Just search around and see what people have to say I think it varies between manufactorers.

I see... Im looking at this one. Reviews say its the 5400 rpm HD with the lowest power consumption. I guess I'll be fine with it.

Toshiba drives run really cool. At least the one I had in my old system did. 4200 RPM and it idled in the low 30's.

Seems to me most of the people on this board run 7200 speed drives. Funny because I've been using the 5400's without problems yet most of the topics seem to be coming from 7200 owners.

Second stigma to break - I've been running a WD, not a Seagate.

It maybe just be a conditional problem - i.e. running the laptop in a 25+ degree environment.

Seems to be the Western Digital Scorpio Blue and Seagate Momentus 7200.4 drives have the least problems in these laptops.

I'll be reporting next week how the Western Digital Scorpio Black deals with the system. :)
